TOW (flax fiber)

I am trying to find the best place to order tow. I want to try some in my smooth bore this squirrel season.

Not sure about the best place,but I ordered mine from Track of the Wolf :hatsoff:

I prefer wasp nest's, they don't seem to hold a spark like tow. Tow can smolder on the ground for a long time possibly starting a fire. Track Of The Wolf Used to sell Tow, they probably still do. Good luck and have fun this fall.

I ordered my last tow from Dixie Gun Works, $6.95 for 3 ounces, good quality, shipping was reasonable.

If you search their site for just tow you won't find it, you have to put it in quotation marks, "tow".

I got mine from Jastown as well. Haven't tried in gun yet. Takes a spark very well though.

All the dealers I have seen were about the same price. I have got it from Townsend and from Turkey foot traders, I have naught to say about either company but good things, both are #1 in my book.

Got my tow from them, too. I've done quite a bit of business with them, and everything has always been right by me.

I have found that one does have to be a little careful about smouldering tow shot from a smoothbore. But a spritz of moose milk solves that little situation.

They say you can wash tow and use it again.

I don't know what plumbers use to seal threads in the USA but here in France tow fibres wound into the threads with linseed oil putty is used where teflon tape won't do the job. I get my tow from any plumbers supply section in a hardware shop in a large hank.

I do wash and dry it after use and now run it through the Memsahib's wool carding machine to make it fit for use again. Still on my first hank but I see them everywhere.

Yup. You can. Leastways you can rinse it out, dry it, and use it again. And if you wad your smoothbore with it, you can use it again if you can find it on the ground.

I was planning on using it for wadding. I may rethink that since hearing how flammable it is.

Last Saturday the temperature was in the mid 90s. So I used a card wad atop the powder charge, then the ball, and last the wad of tow which I moistened with a little moose milk. Never had a problem.
