It is a copy of a Marman underhammer. Only parts bougth is Hawkens trigger guard, buttplate and barrelblank.

The plank is straigth octangonal,1"across the flats,33"long, Caliber 54, made by FCI(Charles Burton).
I hand rifled it, twist 1:70 on a bench I barrowed from a friend.

I made the lock and sigths from sheet metal and barstock. I made the Stock from a piece of blister Maple form Jim Kibler.

The barrel is rust blued With an a iron clorid/alchol solution. The Stock is southpaw and inlaid With sterling silver wire, stained With vinegaroon. The finish is lindseed oil I boiled With leadwhite and eggshells.

Shot it for the first time yesterday. Patched round ball 0.535 and 65 grains 2f. Results look promising, but I probly have to go up to 85grains of powder and cut off half of the higth of the front sigth.

You can fin abit about the lock buiding here:

Very Nice Rolf,
I like the wire and the pewter nose cap. It has a really neat looking rear sight. For those who do not know Rolf, this may be his first rifle but he has built quite a few gorgeous pistols that are the equal of any made today. I cannot wait to see your Beck, Rolf.

Was your plug fit pretty well? I got one from Charles about a year ago (a 38 caliber A-weight) that the plug rattled a fair amount in when going in, and it barely needed pressure beyond finger tightening to get it to line up with the index marks. Once I smoothed out the machine marks on the face of the plug it loosened up even more. Now only finger pressure is required to line it up. I hope it will be safe to shoot.

Bougth the barrel without a plug. Made my own. A standard plug wouldn't work With a underhammer.

Best regards
Rolf

very nice Rolf, did you make the rear sight or can that sight be bought somewhere? If home made did you have a plan to work from? I've seen those style sights on schuetzen and military jaeger rifles. I want one!!
