The original nipples on the Ruger Old Army were hexagonal.

What size are yours?

Spence

If they are the same as a ROA, they are 3/16". Try a small 1/4" drive ratchet with a 3/16 socket.. Be careful, don't over tighten them. The hex may strip off.

I bought the socket a short extension and handle at a pawn shop. Very little$ and keep them in the pistol box.

so get a cheap 1/4 inch drive metric socket set or take a nipple with ya to the hardware & just buy the socket that fits.

You just need a thin wall 6 mm deep socket with a 1/4 inch drive. If you look at places like Sears or even Harbor Freight, you may be able to buy a single socket. Otherwise, you may have to buy a set. If you have to buy a set, find the nearest Harbor Freight and buy a cheap set there.
Their stuff is cheap imports but often are pretty serviceable. When you are shopping, be sure to take your cylinder with you so you can be sure that the socket will fit down into the nipple recess in the cylinder.

Where did you get the nipples? Maybe they offer a suitable wrench.

6 x 1.00 is the size of the threads. Measure across the flats to get the size of the socket wrench you need. You may need the deep socket to reach into the cylinder.

Got some nipples and they are hex instead of the normal 2 sided.

Where would I turn to find a wrench for these odd nipples?

I actually went another route and found a nut driver for my ROA. It took a lot of looking but I eventually found one. Might not be so easy if it's metric I suppose.

Metric nut drivers are easy to find. Ebay alone has over 1000 listings for "metric nut driver". Always good to have an excuse to buy more tools!
