Patch lube

THE WATER SOLUBLE SYNTHETIC COOLANT USED IN MACHINE SHOPS TODAY IS NOT THE SAME AS WATER SOLUBLE OIL WHICH DOES STILL EXIST BUT APPARENTLY ONLY IN LARGE QUANTITIES. I BELIEVE MOBIL OIL HAS SOME BUT IS SOLD ONLY IN 5 OR MORE GALLON CONTAINERS.

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH THE SYNTHETIC STUFF WAS WITH SEVERAL RIFLEMEN WHO SAID IT DRIED COMPLETELY, TENDED TO SET FIRES DOWN RANGE AND WAS INEFFECTIVE AS A PATCH LUBE.

NAPA AUTO PARTS USED TO HAVE THE REL THING BUT CHANGED THE FORMULA TO SOMETHING SYNTHETIC THAT IS FINE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE BUT APPARENTLY NOT AT ALL RIGHT AS A PATCH LUBE.

Stumpy's Moose Snot patch lube has some Murphy's Oil Soap in it. I also use it in the MAP cleaning solution. In the 18 ct. that type of oil soap was called "soft soap". Is that the same as the machinist's oil soap?

I think the cutting/cooling/lubricating fluids all contained some type of glycol. Ethylene in the old stuff, very toxic....now they use propylene....
Don't quote me though....

Whatever goo you are using, if it gives you tight groups, stick with it.

Have finally digitized all my material. Cleaned up by an expert, no longer a wait for the mail man. Thank you for your help.

I have had Dutch system for a few years now. I have tried many different things. The advice from Dutch always works best for me. Last Sunday I shot in six 50 yd bench matches, 3 shots each. I won the last 2 with a 30x each. Thanks Dutch.
