I ruined the ramrod on my NIB Pedersoli Springfield 1861.
Anyone have any luck getting factory replacement parts like this from Pedersoli (or another source)?
So far, no response to my inquiry through the Pedersoli website.
I bought the gun from Cabelas mail-order.

I was doing my typical new rifle strip and clean and got a cleaning patch and the ramrod stuck in the bore.
I normally don't use the factory rod but my range and cleaning rods aren't long enough for the 40" barrel on the Springfield.
During the battle to get it unstuck, the rod split at the joint (it's made from two pieces, which I didn't realize until it broke).
I ended up doing some searches here, read about the grease gun method and thankfully it worked.
I'm guessing the rod was damaged during my push/pull/twist/curse attempts and not by the grease method.

TIA

My old Pedersoli Brown Bess rammer also had a two piece rod, but it was joined very close to the front as were the originals. (The button head was softer iron while the rest of the rod was steel.) The solder they used was not very strong, so I cleaned the joining surfaces and silver soldered it back together. Never came loose again.

A true 1861 Springfield Rammer should have a swell a little behind the button/tip. Is your Pedersoli like that? Here is an example of what I mean: http://www.ssfirearms.com/proddetail.asp?prod=58S127&cat=87

I am not sure how closely the Pedersoli Rammer follows the original rammer dimensions, so if you have a set of dial calipers, it would be good to have them on hand when you call to ask about buying a replacement rod. Here are suppliers who can help you out with a replacement rammer. I would definitely suggest you call to make sure the replacement rammer will fit your musket as there are some dimensional differences by different reproduction makers.

I worked Civil War guns and sold parts for them for about 2/3rds of the NSSA Spring and Fall National Championships between 1974 and 2005. However, the Pedersoli rifle muskets had not yet been made or imported. So I don't know if the problem you have with your rammer is common or not. IF it is common, and I am not saying it is because I don't know, then you probably would want another source for a replacement rammer.

Two more sources for Pedersoli Parts:

I saved the best for last. When no one else seems to be able to get some Pedersoli Parts, Richard Beauchamp normally or often can: http://www.flintlocksetc.com/contact_us.htm

I would contact Cabelas. I have had em get me new rods for a pedersoli 10GA and a .32 crockett, quick and free (but we taking 10-13-2 years ago, not sure cust serv still as good?)

Thanks for all the help.

Pedersoli Italy responded to my inquiry and suggested I contact Mr. Beauchamp of Flintlocks, Etc., as did several of you good folks.

I have done so and placed an order for a replacement Pedersoli 1861 Springfield ramrod.

Turns out it was a $72.95 mistake ($60+shipping), but I'm just glad the OEM replacement is available.

$45 from S&S. Any repro or original '61 rammer will work. As far as I know all repros are pieced just below the swell and welding it back would work fine. A '63 rammer would work too but it lacks the swell of the '61 which is used to retain it in the stock.

The S&S rod is $53 shipped but for $20 more, I went with the OEM to ensure a good fit.

I will look into fixing the broken rod to use as spare. Is Mapp gas hot enough to do a repair on this?
