Hi there folks, I recently picked up a Pedersoli Kentucky .45 Percussion rifle, in my google searching for info I stumbled across this Forum. I'm from Victoria, Australia, as you may have guessed from the "G'day" ....

In the process of gathering all the paraphernalia necessary to get the Kentucky shooting, but I'm a newby so no doubt I'll shoot some questions out there to get me on the right track.

Anyways, look forward to chatting with you folks!

Cheers, Otto.

Welcome to the Forum. :hatsoff:

Your stumble was most fortuitous...you have come to the right place. Lots of fellow Aussies here, and folks who can answer questions you didn't know you had! Enjoy.

Where in Vic?

I shoot at the Bairnsdale pistol club & the Buchan range. Give me a yell if you're down this way.

Well, OK, Oz it is - my initial thoughts were that maybe you were either an East Coast (US) shrimp peddler, or maybe a West Coast (US) Barbeque vender :haha:

Key words are 'necessary paraphernalia'. You'll no doubt be advised by everyone to be sure to have some particular piece of gear in your range bag. Necessity varies by the individual, and has both utilitarian, and historical basis.

Selection of items is very personal, and the value of each is something only YOU can determine.

This advice is based on MY experience and is sound advice:

Look at as many different on-line muzzleloader supply vendors as you can. Buy one of every piece of gear you deem [or even suspect] necessary. At this point the only limitations are your personal budget, bank credit, the size of your range bag, and upper body strength.

Every time you go out to shoot, you must bring everything with you.

After 6 months, simply dump out your bag and sort thru all your stuff. Of course there's the mandatory powder measure(s), touch hole pick, and various range rod attachments. And then there will be God-knows-what else on the table.

Sort by items you use frequently, by items you suspect you need to have on hand just in case of trouble (ball puller, various screwdrivers and hand tools) vs items that nobody knows why you bought it, but it appear that you've never used it and never will.

The list of 'must haves' vs 'don't needs' will vary greatly from person to person, so don't blindly rely on anyone elses' recommendations on indispensable items.
