Here's an idea for creating a brass horn spout. I started with a gas fitting as shown at left in the photo and turned it into a spout using my little JET lathe. I used the parting tool carefully to remove the threads and start to define the shape. I finished it with files. A coat of Van's gun blue turned the brass black and I then wiped it back with a scotchbrite pad.

We know you are an accomplished wood turner. I am a wood turner also but would never consider using my wood tools on brass. I have made items from brass by turning them but choose to use old files. Sometimes I'll break one and use the sharp point for cutting. Cheap and non-destructive to my wood turning tools.
