Makin some oil

One more question for ya Swampy.
If I render deer tallow in the house will it stink up the kitchen to the point where my wife bans me from ever doing it again?

Umm I don't remember any offensive smell when I did it in here. It's just clean fresh fat your doing so you shouldn't get into trouble...if you do, just blame it on me. :thumbsup:

I believe gmww did his batch in the kitchen too if I remember right.

Just want to thank swampy for the great tip on rendering the grease in a slow cooker on warm..3 to 4 day event started with a 9 lb. bag filled a 6 quart cooker. spooned off the oil-grease.triple filtered through fine cloth. here's a pic of my 2 oil jars both 1/2 gal. draker oil was rendered in an iron fry pan...have six other jars rendered and seperating.

Hey Dan, wanna trade? How bout I send you 4 oz of my rendered oil and I'll include another 4 oz bottle for you to send me some of yours...I got a good start with having oil from 3 different places, thinkin it would be neat to collect it from as many as I can for the hell of it. :thumbsup:

I need some advice on how to make lube for minni balls. about 2 years ago I rendered some fat from hamburger. I strained it and put it in plastic containers and put it in the freezer where it got white and hard. I want to mix a pound of this white hard lard and bee's wax to make lube. Will this work? How long can I keep it in the freezer/ Does it go bad. Thanks in advance for any help. Mudd Turtle.

Mudd, I don't know anything about hamburger lard. I know rendering bear or deer with meat gives the rendered fat an off smell. Which seems to just get worse with time. I think somewhere between a 50/50 and 60/40 bear oil/deer tallow mix should be a good conical lube. You may want to try a 60/40 mix and see what thats like. I use deer tallow in place of beeswax.
