This sounds weird, but I live in the Bronx and if I can get a longrifle (44" Dickert barrel) into the trunk of a Taurus I just may try to get one. I saw into the trunk of a 2002 and it was DEEEEP! Any Taurus owners out there?

-Ray

I just tried to get my Early Lancater 44" barreled rifle in the trunk of my 2000 Taurus and it would not fit, it would fit in the rear of the passenger compartment with the but on the floor and the forestock resting on the rear seat, a 42" barrel might fit in the trunk but it would be close.

TG and Simon: You mean to tell me that NYC and your good senators haven't outlawed those nasty 50 cal flint assault rifles yet. Heaven forbid they miss a chance to make headlines.

i think i will have to buy a new car or truck to fit my 42" barreled lancaster in it when it's done :shocking:....as my 87 buick sentry just will not do it now.............bob

Does it have the split rear seats that allow you to fold one down? You'd be surprised what I fit in a Ford ZX2 (like two 60" wingspan, 55" length R/C airplanes and the copier-paper size fieldbox and fuel can. . . and a 30 lb dog).

Got a sunroof? ::

Try getting one in your CJ5 and still be able to change gears. Oh well they were made for M1s not Tenn. Poor Boys forgot.

Redwing

I know a fella that used to come to vouz with his Looong rifle in a cloth case with it strapped to the backrest of his Harley. :front:

Both Tauruses I owned had split rear seats that folded down....so your longrifle could fit in the trunk with a portion sticking out into the passenger compartment.
Don't know about a CJ5, but my TJ Jeep is basically the same. I just prop the long guns up in the passenger seat. On the other hand, with the rear set removed I can fit in my band's entire PA system, all the stands, my guitar amp, and guitar....and still have room for my wife to ride along.

Weird,

What year was yours? This is a 2002 and the trunk is a LOT bigger than on my Neon.

Been trying to figure out how to do that on my old Triumph. Don't want to hurt the gun or bike.

Think roof rack! :winking:
You know those kind for skis etc. that lock.

Yes it does sound kind of weird, but there are probably a few hundred other people who live in the Bronx as well. :blah:

Anyway I'm kind of confused as to whether you are considering buying a car or a longrifle. If you are thinking about getting the gun; go for it you can always trade the car in when the rifle arrives if you have to. On the other hand if you are thinking about getting the car; get one with a trailer hitch, then buy a bass boat. The rifle will fit nicely in the rod lockers and you can take it safely anywhere you choose.

I'm glad to have solved your dilemna for you. :haha:, and can I borrow your boat?

I picked up a really nice 42" TN rifle stock at Tip Curtis Frontier Shop about a month ago & it was a full stock that was uncut & it barely would go in the trunk. And I mean I had to work it around to find one way Only it would go into the truck of my sons 2002 Taurus. No way would a 44" barreled one go Unless you folded down the rear seat & put it in that way. All of the Taurus I have seen have rear seats that will fold down & possibly you could fold it enough to get the gun in & then put the seat back up. If I remember correctly the problem was getting it past the trunk lid opening & turned just right it barely cleared.
He may stop by today & if he does I will check it out & see if a 44" barreled rifle will lay flat in it. I know the 42" one will but can't remember how much room was left.

Ok, he is here with the auto. I put a unbuilt Southern Mountain rifle in the trunk with a 44" barrel on it. It will NOT go thru the trunk opening alone, you have to fold down the drivers side rear seat top & then it will go in & then you can close it back up & it will lay flat. (All of the 2002 Taurus seats Do fold down, slip your hand between the back support cushion & the seat upper cushion & there is a lil flat nylon loop, pull it & the seat will come forward & lay down) I also took a unbuilt Dickert out there with a 42" barrel stuck in the barrel channel, same results & have about 2.5" clearance in there with closed up, so I feel confident the Dickert with a 44" barrel will go in also.
This is a 2002 Taurus SE but my son says the dif of SE & others is trim & interior, the body & trunks are the same on that year.

:results:

PS: Now this is a standard 13 3/4"- 14" LOP stock, not a real long LOP.

Muchos gracias. I figured some kind of yoga would be needed to get it in. But driving with a rifle case in the back seat is no longer an option.

-Ray :thanks:

Camoflage it as something obvious. People see what they expect.

Two cheap, garage sale golf bags, mouth to mouth with the gun half in each. No one will ever suspect.

A "Rossignol" 220cm x-country zippered ski bag.

Make a rectangular plywood box, paint it black and paint "YAMAHA" in white letters on both sides. People will think it;s an electronic keyboard.

I have a white canvas pouch/case that doesn't look like anything offensive.

Or, carry it proudly in plain sight. It ain't illegal to transport an unloaded gun between home and point of use. This is still Amurika!

tg, it's been a while !! I do have to say that I'm not sure that Taurus is PC, except of course in 2000. See ya, Bill
