I just got my first flinter. It came with a flint in the jaws, but I think it is too long. It is hitting near the top of the frizzen, looks like it would scrape along the whole face of the frizzen. Where would be the ideal place to hit.

I fear we haven't been much help. Two thirds of the way up or one third down should be about right. graybeard

MUCHO FUNNY to all answers - thanks for the chuckle :haha: :haha: .

Wait a second, everything I have read says to install with the large bevel up. Wouldn't that make the edge lower so it would strike lower on the frizzen. Also installed that way wouldn't it give clearance to the flint as it arched on the surface of the frizzen?

If you hit the steel too high up you will eventually cut a dent in the face.

The dent doesn't seem to worry it at all

It doesn't freaking matter if the bevel is up or down as long as the flint strikes the frizzen at a 55° to 60° angle. Flip it up or down, move the flint forward or back, whatever it takes to get that angle!

if you put your flint in wrong ways up, the resulting quantospin will reverse the local coriallis effect, thus doplerizing the variance of coefficient, and momentarily inverting the gravitational constant of incredulity. .. Thus, the resultant recombinant derivation of polymerizate will cause notable depreciation in the adequacy and efficacy of primer explosiosivity.

To remedy this fault, you will need to reverse the mis- orientation of the inappropriately positioned flint and repeat the attempt to achieve ignition.

try it one way, and if that doesn't work, turn it 'round until it does.

now, about that lead vs leather flintwrap thing...

'Twould be easier to take that seriously if you had spelled "doplerizing" correctly. Remember, two P's and one Q. graybeard
