I shoot 1000-1200 per year. Shoot the muzzleloaders often. My centerfire rifles hibernate for most of the year.

Dear sir
Our farmers and self defence licence holders are limited to a given quota of cartridges and/or gun powder, varying from 25 to 100 cartridges a year and gun powder limit being 1 kg to 2 kg a year.that too not on one time purchase,25 cartridges and/or 200 grams of gun powder at a time.but no lead limit.and 90% of licence holders don't even use a annual quota in their life time.some guns even not fired in their life span.
Thank you.

More than 230 years ago the Govenment back then tried that kind of regulation.

We kicked their butts out.

Could be time to start some more kickin'. Shoulda started some years ago but better late than too late.

Interesting.

If you were a licensed holder and was using a .45 caliber (11.43mm) or a .50 caliber (12.7 mm) flintlock rifle, that 2 kg of black powder would provide you with over 300, 50 grain powder loads which would be quite suitable for the .45 caliber gun.

If you were using the .50 caliber and using a 70 grain powder load you could shoot over 200 shots.
(2.0 kg = 15,435 grains).

As you say the amount of lead is unlimited, the number of spherical projectiles you could cast would be unlimited.

That would leave finding suitable flints for the lock, cloth patching for the balls and a safe legal place to shoot the only remaining things you would need.

(I mention these calibers in the smoothbore section because more than a few Countries in the World restrict the ownership of rifles.
Smooth bores in these calibers are often available in those countries to meet the demands of the people who wish to shoot firearms.)

Including shot loads, I'd guess about 600 or so.

Unless we include cannon rounds.
Then it's best to just say how many pounds of powder used per year.

Usually about 60 or so.

During the first 8-10 years of this century, I shot 50 shot range sessions constantly year round, often multiple trips in a week, averaging 2000-2200 shots/year.

Then 3-4 years ago I reached a point where all the various caliber experimenting was over, all the non-lead projectile experimenting was over, the novelty of high volumes of range trips / shooting was wearing off, and retirement enabled me to expand into a lot of other things.

In addition, last year I did no crow hunting, no dove hunting, and not sure I'll bother with squirrel hunting anymore...given all the above, I doubt I'll break 900-1000 shots this year and suspect it will continue to decline...sold my .40 and .58cals a couple months ago, etc.

I know the feeling; I drift between several of my hobbies. I think the thing that keeps shooting fresh is competition shooting, trying to improve my group.

Also there always seems to be one more gun to build.

Still switching to music, canoeing, fishing or ham radio makes for a nice change of pace.

Nature & Wildlife photography has and continues to take more and more of the time I used to spend shooting / hunting. The good news is I'm still after game, and have merged a lot of photography with hunting...ie: hope to video punching a longbeard tag with an Early Virginia next month...then still be in the woods during the off seasons, camera gear instead of Flintlocks.

Had a good range trip this morning...3 more scheduled before the April 11th Turkey opener.

Well Col. the question to you might be " how many shots do you take?" The gummint should keep his nose out of how much MEDICINE a feller makes. Don't never know when ya might git snake bit! I sure would hate to bite a snake sober.

Another good range trip yesterday (Friday).
The next two trips Monday and Wednesday, will be with hunting loads and life size (paper) Turkey targets...Turkey season opens in a week.

kinda like "I'm as honest as I can be" :blah: :rotf:

Had a guy tell me that in an interview for a job once. I never did find out how honest that was :idunno:

I shoot a couple of 1 lb. cans of Goex a year so it's less than 200 shots. Too much time at work to shoot anymore than that. A few years back I didn't have to go to the range to shoot but now I do.

I have been on the economic treadmill so much the last few years that I don't seem to be able to slow down and enjoy the things I used to. Just glad to get a little deer hunting in anymore and that seems to be a big hurry anymore as well.
