A knife guy that always has a booth at the local gun show was selling this brand for a while. He likes to show me the new things he's selling and he thought I'd be interested in them. They look and feel nice, but the price was WOW.

He stopped selling them once his initial bunch was sold off. He said that the market for a "tactical" tomahawk just wasn't there. He had one left that someone wanted a refund on and he tried to make me a deal but it just didn't fit my needs, so I passed on it.

The one he had left was just a wooden handle with the hawk head on it. Looked pretty good but he was still trying to get $200 out of it. Not for me. :youcrazy:

I have a Longhunter model and like it, for what it is: a modern hawk with pseudo-traditional styling. It is small, light and well-balanced, though hard to get razor-sharp due to the convex edge. Mine just has a dark hickory handle. I use it when hunting and backpacking in modern clothing with modern guns. I also have several tomahawks and belt axes that are more historically-correct from HB Forge, Beaver Bill, and other custom blacksmiths that I carry when in period dress and hunting with a flintlock. I do like my 2 Hawks, though, when I'm not trying to portray the 18th century, and see mine as a cross between modern and classic styling. Beats the heck outta the plastic or metal-handled "tactical" hawks for sure, but the shape of the head isn't really traditional due to the curves, let alone the stampings. Got mine on sale...at full price you can get something much nicer and more PC/HC from Beaver Bill or other custom makers at a much better price.

The new reliable from TOW is cast steel. It is made by Allen Mfg. I have two of the large ones and one small. They throw great and really take a nice edge. I have been throwing it for quite a few years with no problems. I try not to hammer with it because of it being cast. Hope that helps.

What is a "tactical" t-shirt, anyway? Been a very long time since I took English 101 but sure can't remember any meaning of the word "tactical" that would apply to a T-Shirt. Probably snickering is best response. Works with most things. graybeard

Will I received my 2 Hawks Longhunter about a month ago and have been using it. It's a fine tool. Well balanced, sharp, and handles very well. It's light. Which is good for trekking and all around camping/hiking. It chops good for the size and weight. All I all I would say it was a good purchase that I can pass down to my kids when that time comes. I won't be throwing it, but it would work fine for that too....
