Hi folks. Today the mailman was nice enough to bring me an Armi San Marco Walker. It is in very good condition and doesn't even have a cylinder ring. I usually utilize the search function before asking a question but my internet is running very sloooowwwwly, so here goes: How do I determine the year of manufacture, or is there a way? The guy I bought it from said it has set on his desk for about the past 25 years.

I apologize because I'm sure this question have been asked countless times. I'm just hoping my internet will actually allow me to post this question. :cursing:

Do tell.....

Well, it is a 1981 ASM Walker. The fit and finish is very good. I was going to shoot it today but we are going to bale hay instead. Yea.

So, were the early 1980s good quality years for ASM, or was their quality control lacking during that period?

Depends on who you ask.
I know of one gent who chucked his ASM Walker in the dumpster because he was so sick of replacing parts (!!!!???)He claimed the internals were soft and the springs overly brittle.
IDK..I own a couple ASM's and find them quite nice myself.I sure wouldn't chuck 'em in the dumpster.

I have a whitneyville walker made by ASM vintage 77 and have never had a problem yet.Ive only had it about 4 months but fired it over 200 times without a hitch.Have fun with yours.

Thanks CaptainKirk. Even if my Walker breaks and parts are not available, I think this gun is a keeper. It is living on a bookcase in my office right now and looks pretty good.

Doug, I believe you have motivated me. This coming weekend will be a great time to do some shooting.

Yes sir, this is the second Walker I have owned. I remedied the lever-drop problem with my first one with a piece of rawhide tied around the barrel. Not pretty, but it worked great.

Well, hopefully this thing will shoot without problems for years to come. It is nice knowing I can get parts though. Thanks.

Did you buy it from a guy in NC?

No,Wells Mn and I took a file and sharpened the edge of the loading lever spring just a touch and have never had the lever drop on me yet but I only use 50 grain loads.
