Sorry about that, fellers. I've changed the setting back to "public". What I really wanted was to post the pictures right on this site, but it's been a while since I last did this, and I guess I didn't do it correctly.

That's just to awesome. It's been 3 winters since my pards and i undertook such a sojourne. They're callin for -12 tonight, so i reckon we'll not be out anytime soon. Our MZ deer season, here in west central Ohio did get to -6 and that didn't turn out to bad at all.

great photos thank you for sharing. what kind of temps did you have? we had a winter camp at our club here in Channahon 2 weekends ago, low around 5 at night then 3"-4" of snow Saturday.

Loved the Pics. Good times and memories made for sure.

While we weren't in period dress, I was part of a group that winter camped every year. A few years we hit -20 F at night. :youcrazy: No matter how bad you had to pee in the middle of the night, you stayed tucked in!!!!

We didn't have a thermometer, but we estimate it was something like 22° during the day, and maybe 8-9° at night. We kind of lucked out with the weather, because it was considerably colder both before and after our weekend of Jan. 17-19. Strong winds with blowing and drifting snow moved in the morning we packed out. To quote one of the leaders of our group "I think that's it for lean-to's" Hahahaha. A number of us are in our 60's, so we are going to build a better shelter and make our trek in, pulling toboggans, shorter. As we like to remind ourselves, "we are here to have fun and learn something, not die or get hurt".

Greta pictures, thanks for sharing. Looks like you all had a great time.

Hey, what's all that white stuff? :haha:

Seriously, good bunch or pics and looks like good bunch of guys! Congrats!!

Thank you for sharing!

Very nice pictures, and I agree it looks like you had a lot of fun. :hatsoff:

Did you build the toboggans, or were did you get them?

Silex

Gruess Gott, Silex! One person made his own toboggan, but the rest of us used commercially made, "modern" toboggans that are very common in the northern USA and normally used for "sled riding" in the winter. We bought ours years ago when our children were small. While not exactly period correct, they are close enough to the originals.

Those beards are naturally gray! It wasn't QUITE cold enough for ice build-up, but we were a huffin' and puffin' dragging those 60-70 lb toboggans 3/4 mile back to our campsite.....through fairly deep snow. Not easy for guys in their sixties who are not in the best shape.

Great pics! Especially the one showing the camp at night.
I know what you mean about the treking. I'm 62. Gets a little tougher every year now. :(
So we just make shorter treks now. :haha:
Thanks again for posting. Rick. :hatsoff:
