ive found a source of these guns that is asking a reasonable price (sorta) for these guns. so my question, are they any good?

its the onley military minie ball rifle i know of that has a rear sight thats adjustable for windage which is why its appealing. but with the price being over a thousand dollars i need to know these things arent junk. if you have any experiance with these rifles please chime in.

thank you

Davide Pedersoli to not make 'junk'.

tac

i have seen some pedersoli guns that would qualify as "junk".

Seems one of these guns dont come with a ramrod. Where did the soldier carry his ramrod?

Hmmm. I don't know where you are looking, but all the images I can find clearly show the characteristic 'button-ended' ramrod of this early Mauser product.

Well, drats. I was kinda hoping someone had used one of those. Not many things running around the Pedersoli stable have tempted me except that Mauser.

im with ya goodcheer, i was really hopen for a decent review. not the silly reviews people give on sites like dixiegunworks.

two things make purchasing this gun rough.

1. its $1100 and no decent reviews can be found. this makes it too expensive of a risk.
2. the only mold for the minie this gun fires is made by pedersoli and i still cant find a vendor for it. (it fires a .547 minie ball)

ill keep looking online and hope that someone gave a serious review.

If you do get one of them, it might be worthwhile to get a minie mold adjusted to fit the bore. Erik at hollowpointmold.com is expert at doing such at very reasonable rates. He can perform grinding to make a mold produce exactly the specified larger diameter. A 2nd hand Lyman .54 minie could be a likely candidate for creating a .547". He has done such for me and as shows, I'm a happy customer.

Suppose it's a good thing the Mauser isn't a flinter. Saves me a lot of money!

had Erik work on a 69 cal minie ball mold for me. he did ok, he seemed to have a large amount of trouble getting all the bands to be the same size. i can understand since minie balls are complicated projectiles by any standard. i had to send my mold back to him a couple times trying to get it to work right for my stubborn gun. in the end i gave up (not his fault).

back on topic, im working on tracking down a pedersoli 54 cal minie ball mold as we speak. will see if i get an email back from some of the suppliers.

The Whitworth does not meet your needs.
I know it is not .54 cal.

im not really interested in shooting paper patched bullets. im more interested in the military minie ball. thanks for the suggestion though.

i did hear back from one of the companies i contacted about the .547 minie ball mold. they said they can get it but it would take a few months to get in and would cost around $150 shipped.
