That is one strange gun.

I rarely comment on unusual firearms because I have seen many museum pieces that were awkardly home modified to fit someone’s need.

Still, I cannot imagine any practical use for this gun; short of a hit man from a "B" grade 1930’s mobster movie. And even then they would have used a breachloader.

I think a person would be better off with a Howdah pistol. And who knows, you may find yourself in an elephant basket someday.

Not something I'd really want myself. The barrels are the same length as the howdah pistol. All they did was add a butt stock to it (and removed one of the triggers). So now you've got a gun that's heavier, takes up more room, and costs more for the same ballistic performance and one less trigger. If it has a shoulder stock, then I'd want at least 18-20" barrels (more along the lines of a coach gun). Otherwise, I'll just stick with my howdah pistols.

If you need it for reenacting, that's a whole different ball game. But if that's the goal then you shouldn't really be looking at Pedersoli in the first place (and I'm a Pedersoli fan).

I already have a coach gun and three howdah pistols, so I'll pass on this one.

Where I shoot and mostly small game I could get this to work for me!

If I can get close for the recurve then I can sure get close enough for this gun!

I also have a natural blind I sit in and wait to see what passes, my short Peder' double combined with ball and shot has the bases covered. I see this little gem doing the same!

I get the Howda for bear country thing however this short full stocked item I see as an actuall game getter, then again so could the Howda

Brits :hatsoff:

It does look PC/HC for a frontier bar keep. Of course your persona would need a PC bar.

my head is spinning so much i've almost forgotten what the original question was..

just to add another element, cabelas has an "add-on" stock that fits the howdah (for a mere $130 or so) which would actually give me a long and short version.

i think what i'm after is a SxS, 20+ gauge, double barrel with a stock.. it's actually really hard for me to use one hand to hold and aim the howdah.. how hard is it to find a used CVA ?

then there's the option of having someone like bobby hoyt re-bore my existing bbl to an 18ga (or something like that) and just get a custom stock to swap the locks between.

this could turn into quite a project... but isn't that supposed to be half the fun of it anyway ?

any more suggestions?

:hmm:

LeMat, how does that Howdah shoot at, say, 10 yards? Have you ever tried it out on targets? I vote for the add-on Howdah shoulder stock. More versatile than a whole new gun. Pay for a pig hunt with the difference and then show us how the Howdah works in the field!

I kinda like the looks of the 20" 12ga Pedersoli that Cabellas has on thier web-site. But not for that kind of money. Seems like my dollar is hard to get but the exchange rate between the euro or lira or whatever they use over there make it unfeasable.

ive looked at those add-on stocks for the howdah and they looked pretty cheap and flimsy. im not sure how well they would hold up to any regular use.

well, this could all be over before i even get started.. someone posted a question on cabelas about this Baker being an SBS and here's the answer:

"While the Davide Pedersoli 20-gauge Double-Barrel Coach Shotgun is a fully functional replica, it is sold as a working display model. For legality information please check with the California Department of Fish and Game or the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE)."

so, looks like i'm going to spend a few hours trying to find "the list" of approved firearms that's posted somewhere on the CA-DOJ website.. personally, i see it as just another BP item and should be subject to the same rules for all the others.. i'll find out soon enough.

in the meantime, i'm going to look for someone that's experienced in stock making to see if they would be interested in creating a Baker for me.. any recommendations ?

:hatsoff:

I know you can get a used older caplock rifle double shotgun and just cut it down to 11.5 inches if you want and save a bunch of money and have something that aesthetically looks even more authentic.

I like the look and utility of a shorter double barrel.

zoar,

that seems to be about the only realistic solution, so today i scanned gunbroker and found just 1 CVA available with a reserve of about $500.. no matter which way i turn it just becomes another dead end.. oh well, at least i have a new dream.

I hear ya. Actually i have a passion for all double barrels including modern that shoot shells, of course modern is 1800's with ornate open hammers and that shoot black powder loads. I just picked up another, this one on an auction site. The barrels had been professionally cut down to 20 inches. I paid about $250 for this double blam blam 12 gauge.

Jumpshot, those barrels are regulated really fine with that load! Ever try messin around with other loads to get it any better (which you don't really need)?
