    Advice for visiting Alaska

The only place that I know of that you might see older firelocks in AK is an antique store in Anchorage. https://www.theantiquegallery.com/

    Flintlock fowler

Thank you all for the info and suggestions! When the fowlers were loaded with ball and buck how was it done? Was a wading used over the powder and the ball and buck? Were paper cartridges used and if they were how was the ball and buck loaded? Buck over ball or the other way around? Thanks.

    Flintlock fowler

I recently acquired a 11ga club butt flintlock fowler. I have experience with other smoothbores. I know nothing about loads for this firelock. It will be used for demonstrations at Project Appleseed Marksmanship and History Clinics. We will have folks, mostly kids, (with assistance) shooting...

A Revolution in Arms: Weapons in the War for Independence

Thought this was interesting. Especially the British Pattern 1769 Short Land musket. I was always led to believe that not many Short Land BB were used during the AWI...

Are the Military Heritage brown besses any good?

There is currently a Miroku BB on Gunbroker. It looks a little rough but it appears that it may clean up nicely.

    Opinions on Miroku (?) Bess

I have a Miroku BB that I have had for several years. Maybe I got lucky but I have not had any issues what so ever with it. Trigger is good, no lock issues, frizzen and pan have no gap, etc. It gets several hundred live round fired every year and has not failed once. Because the wood is not...

Got a Deal on a Charleville

I have had quite a few different folks of all ages, (mostly kids), shoot the Charleville. It is the favorite of all our firelocks...even...gasp!...the BB...by about five to one.

Got a Deal on a Charleville

I have four boys that really like it. They are all campaigning for it in my will...:o

Got a Deal on a Charleville

I have a Navy Arms Charleville that I bought a couple years ago. I believe that it is most likely made by Miroku. Love it! Have shot it at least a couple hundred times. Paper cartridges. Only miss-fire is once I did not swab the barrel after it was in storage for a couple months.

Is a vent liner OK for a Bessie?

About cleaning during shooting. I take kids to the range quite often to shoot my BB and Charleville. We will shoot at least 50 rounds through each. Don't recall having any miss-fires due to fouling. We run a dry brush about every 10-12 shots. Run the brush, tap the barrel with muzzle...

    Which Brown Bess?

Don't discount the Miroku made Bess. they are very well made and are almost as nice as the Pedersoli Bess. The main difference is the wood. Pedersoli is walnut and the Miroku is a lighter wood of some kind. I sanded and dyed mine darker and now the wood looks almost like the Pedersoli Bess. I...

    Brown Bess

I would also look at the Japanese Made Miroku Bess. Many were made for Dixie and Navy Arms. Miroku also makes Browning firearms.

    Pedersoli 2nd Model Brown Bess

I agree with lead. Never had a flint slip in any of my firelocks from .40cal through the BB. I pounded mine out of deformed lead balls.
