    Mr Bobby Hoyt

I found a Pedersoli .54 Target Hawken in a barrel in a gun shop where they only talk AR/AK. The gun was pristeen except for a rusted bore for $100. I talked them down to $75 and shipped it to Bob Hoyt for a rebore to a 1-54 twist in .58 caliber. I had it back in 10 days. It shoots GREAT! He is a...

Just bought 40 pounds of shot that got left out in the rain. How do I dry it out?

Lead shot is usually tumbled in graphite before bagging. If you dry it and do the same for a short time, you won't hardly see the difference between that and new. Copper plated shot is a different story. Congrats on the find!

    Front sight advice PLEASE

A Gunsmith who is known for good work is worth his weight in gold. Find one and pay what he asks and you will be happy with the result and never worry again. You are honest enough to admit you haven't developed the skills. There are people on here who have the skills and spent years developing...

    Round ball and blood trails

Round balls absolutely kill well. Lung shots bring into play the term pneumothorax which is the stopping of lung function due to the ceasing of the pressurized lung to push oxygen into the pulmonary system. If you have two holes instead of one to the outside, it works just that much quicker and...

    Solved the percussion cap issue.

I'd sure like to get a #11 setup!

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

A heavily loaded conical in .45 approximates a .45-70 cartridge. No one questions that a .45-70 will work on deer!

    Brass cleaner/polishjust can't

When it is finally polished the way you want it, try two coats of one of the new ceramic coating car polishes. Water won't stick to it.

    Hornady making primers and/or caps?

For in-house only or are they available somewhere???

    Hornady making primers and/or caps?

I went back to the barbershop where I found the article that I read in the February 2024 issue of Guns and Ammo, page 30 where author Joe Kurtenbach remarked about the new ammunition loading center and primer manufacturing plant on the grounds of the old Cornhusker Army Ammunition plant built by...

    Hornady making primers and/or caps?

I just read that Hornady has opened a plant to make primers and (hopefully) caps. Will they be available to shooters or are they strictly for in-house use. If they sell to the public, I have no doubt they will be top quality offeings. Has anyone else heard about this?

    Mold fills

Try casting at a little higher temp (say 50 degrees or a bit more) with your aluminum mold and check the diameter again.

I Told a Big, Fat Lie a Couple of Weeks Ago

You are a very lucky man. Fate didn't bless my wife and I with grandchildren so we "adopted" some along the way with the approval of their parents. They are grown and avid hunters and fishermen and I am proud of them all.

    Let's talk BALLS!

Hornady .530 swaged balls load easier in my Renegade .54 but my Lee mold casts at .532 and are just as accurate and a lot cheaper! A couple pounds more of force to get them down is no big deal.

I don't think Dad's Hawken is going to hunt

I have a T-C .54 Maxi-Hunter mold that drops out at 455 grains. It is my do-all hunting bullet but it isn't something to shoot for fun. Round ball is enjoyable, especially with lighter loads. I concur with wanting a quick kill; I don't think an Elk has ever been born that can stop that big...
