    Barrel interference with mainspring

Thanks, friends. This lock has a REALLY strong mainspring. In the past, I've worked a little of the thickness of mainsprings to lighten them, rather than reducing the spring width...but I think I'll take a little off the width, lower the lock placement, and then notch the barrel if it still...

    Barrel interference with mainspring

Greetings. I'm trying to pair up a Davis "Trade Gun" lock with a pretty wide barrel...1 1/4" at the breech, if I recall (shame on me for sending this from work, where I can't re-measure the barrel!). However, the lock's mainspring hits the lower side flat of the barrel when I try to place the...

    Hunting with a Tomahawk

No live game with a 'hawk, but I once beaned a rabbit target on a woods walk. It was meant to be a rifle target, but I was low on powder and hated to waste it. twobirds

    firearm values?

Sorry I have been away a few days. Thank you all for your input. You have confirmed what I suspected...that there is no easy way (by website or book) to establish a value for these guns. I doubt that my friend will take them to a gun show for appraisal. Since he is, by profession, a...

    firearm values?

Greetings: A friend of mine has two flintlock pistols and has asked how to establish a value for them. One appears to be an original German(?)holster pistol, and the other may be a British sea service. Thought the Brit has Tower lock markings, Crown w. GR below, and proof marks, I suspect that...

    Spanish Miquelet Lock

Hi Juan: One option you may consider is to have TRS assemble the lock for you. I ordered one of the #505 escopeta kits with an assembled lock, since I had never seen a miquelet lock and I had no idea of the lock geometry. TRS did a pretty good job of lock assembly...left a few casting lines...

    Rifle Shoppe Early Matchlock Caliver

Greetings, JohnnyO: I built a Spanish escopeta from The Rifle Shoppe parts, including their stock. Yes, the stocks are mostly inlet, though I did have to inlet buttplate, triggerguard, etc. I assume the matchlock stock would be inletted similarly. I did have some problems with the...

    Blacksmith's help on sword

I have a cut-down broadsword blade of good carbon steel that I would like to use to build a Spanish sword (espada ancha). I need the services of a blacksmith to forge the guard. What I'm looking for is illustrated at the top of the following website...

    Pewter Bolster Question

My experience, you should probably figure on pinning the blade in, or at least epoxying it in. Pewter shrinks some as it cools and you may end up with a little undesireable wiggle in the there.
