Rust Prevention Plum Brown or Bluing

I live relatively close to the ocean with its higher humidity. I own several muzzle loaders and modern rifles. I was wiping down my guns with a Ballistol wet cloth. I found that all my guns with blued finishes were in great shape. But my Hawkens rifle, which has all iron furniture, which is...

To Polish the Brass Furniture or Not?

I have a Navy Arms Remington Zoli Zouave. I purchased the rifle used in 1975. The lock is dated 1960 and barrel # 740. I have been out of muzzle loading for about 15 years, so I have a lot of questions and I have been learning a great deal from a number of very helpful members on this forum...

New SS Nipple of Navy Arms Zouave Question

Sorry. I did not clarify my question correctly. The flash hole in the barrel is just fine. The flash hole that is in the SS nipple is very small. I have another new steel nipple also and the flash hole in that nipple is much larger. I am concerned as to whether the SS nipple small hole will...

New SS Nipple of Navy Arms Zouave Question

Just received new SS Musket Cap nipple for my Navy Arms Remington Zoli. The flash hole is extremely small. I doubt that I could pass a straight pin through?

    Minie Ball Skirt Expansion

Greatly appreciate everyone's input! I will be shooting at 50 yards. That is the max distance available at my local range. I would have to travel over 2 hours each way to get out to 100 - 200 yards. I thought I would start by shooting a group at 60g 2f. Then drop 5gs with each new group...

    Minie Ball Skirt Expansion

I plan to take my Remington Zouave out to the range next week. I resized my .575 minies and lubed them with SPG. I read somewhere that some guys fill the minie ball rear cavity with Crisco, to help with expansion? I purchased my Navy Arms Remington Zoli, used back in 1975. Just looked at...

    Zoli Zouave Rear Sight Removal

I finally removed the sight with a center punch. I now see that the hold down screw head is very thin and doubt if I could successfully cut a slot. Thanks.

    Zoli Zouave Rear Sight Removal

I sprayed penetrating oil on the rear sight screw. Thought I would use a set punch to loosen. Once off, would it be acceptable to cut a screw driver slot? Chuck

    Minie Ball Sizer

Great results....Rolled .575 and .577 between tiles sections. With 10 firm passes, the bullet will slide in with lite thumb pressure. With 15 firm passes, the bullet will just drop in. As I would be performing this function at home, how do you transport the bullets to the range without...

    Minie Ball Sizer

Thanks for the suggestions. I have left over sections of subway tile. I am going to try rolling the minie balls between 2 sections of tile, as the tile is hard and smooth. Let you know the results. Also ordered 1 lbs of rotometals to slug my barrel. Thanks, Trep44
