    Wheellock Project

Unfortunately, none of us can truly reach the inlay abilities of the old masters because we know what a lion looks like.

    Matchlock Question

Some of the schematics on that site have mistakes, so be careful using them. The button placement on the tinder lock is completely wrong on page 8 of the pdf and they had a wheellock pistol (now removed) that was wrong in every mechanical detail.

    Japanese Matchlock Pistols and Rifles/Muskets

Thanks for the thorough explanation! The Capnball channel has a video on how even antique muzzleloaders need a modern proofing to be shot, so I wasn’t sure if Germany was the same.

    Wheellock Project

Bolek posted a little inlay style guide on his Facebook today, which could be a good place to get started.

    Landsknecht Arquebus and Petronel

Thanks for the advice! I was going to do ball with tow, but I have a short brass tipped ramrod for another gun I can use, just to be safe

    Landsknecht Arquebus and Petronel

Is it a bad idea to use the horn tipped ramrods to load the guns? I know that’s the obviously historical method, but I’m not aware of a modern problem with it, like ruining the horn. As a warning for anyone getting a petronel: range bags are not designed to fit them. I got one that was designed...

    Japanese Matchlock Pistols and Rifles/Muskets

If you get one at a German Auction (unfortunately Hermann Historica doesn’t have any right now) is it possible to get one that’s already proofed and okay to shoot? Do antiques need to be proofed or checked out went transferred to a new owner? apparrently barrels are a bit of a bottleneck for...

    Landsknecht Arquebus and Petronel

I currently have only 2F powder so I was planning on shooting that in the two arquebuses this week. After measuring, the snapping arquebus is .40 cal and the petronel is .50 cal. I am planning on using powder, ball, and tow. Does anyone have powder load recommendations?

"Gun locks, gun locks? We don't need no stinkin' gun locks!"

I have an old truckers hat and huge over my regular glasses safety glasses that came in very clutch when I shot an arquebus without a flash guard. A brigandine or gambeson also probably helped to protect the shooter… and being used to living a life where everything was terrible all the time…

Now THIS wheellock would hurt a LH'd shooter!

That doesn’t look comfortable for anyone to shoot! I may be mistaken, but isn’t the “Portuguese” wheellock a misnomer and they are actually Italian? I think Michael Tromner had a post on it… It looks like I was wrong

OLD original barrels - what to build?

I have a book with photos of Italian barrels that are contemporary to this. When I’m back from work, I can see if they have similar cuts or lugs.

Now you need a pavise to rest it on while shooting!
