Pigeon Forge or nearby clubs? July 4th 2024.

I know you said you'll be gone by the weekend but here in Limestone TN about an hour & a half North of Pigeon Forge is a Flintlock competition at Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park on July 6. https://tnstateparks.com/parks/events/david-crockett-birthplace

SOLD Model 1816 Springfield Musket, Belgian/cone-in conversion $175

These were always a smooth bore so it's entirely possible it's not been converted to a shotgun. Should be .69 caliber if the bore is original.

Please tell me, what was this rifle before it got "decorated"

Has the Liege proof mark on the barrel for being a Belgian gun. Knowing the caliber might help also. Looks like it's always been a flintlock. Probably military since it has a provision for a sling swivel on the trigger guard. More pictures with better detail might pin it down. Of course it could...

    Bobby Hoyt rebore results

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Well worth the price to keep the original barrel.

    Bobby Hoyt rebore results

Question that I should probably just ask Bobby. But... I've got an original 1842 Springfield that's had about 7" chopped off the barrel and the bore is rough. Folks have told me he can fix it and bring it back to original length. Has anyone ever had him do this and if so how does he hide the...

    gun shows

Knowing a few folks who set up at the shows I've come to the conclusion that they go these days mainly to buy, not to sell. They have a few things set out overpriced and sit there hoping for the guy who knows nothing and brought grandpa's old gun they inherited to sell and they can buy it for...

Sarson & Roberts 1861 Contract ID

If I had to guess I'd think the lack of proofs and stock cartouche tells me it was never accepted by the government. Just an educated guess.

    Brown Bess -Why

My 7th generation grandfather Seth Brooks and his buddy Samuel Farrar were both Minutemen and both present on the Concord Bridge on April 19, 1775. These Brown Bess muskets were owned by them a bit later in the war. Thought to have been captured from a privateer. They are both East India Company...

    Questions about IMA

With mine a couple of the threaded holes in the lock plate were stripped and I had to tap them out for bigger screws which required me to also drill out the holes in the bridle and come up with appropriate screws. The square shank on the tumbler was badly worn causing the hammer to be loose and...

    Questions about IMA

Bobby Hoyt could put a liner in it and make it better than new and keep the original barrel.

    Questions about IMA

My friend please don't misunderstand my comments. I do question the origin and many others do as well and these are people who have bought them, taken them apart, worked on them, and built guns from them. Not just some armchair "experts" repeating what someone else told them. These are certainly...

    Questions about IMA

I bought one of the Brown Bess "kits" from them a couple years ago and rebuilt it and it turned out fine. I fired it once on the 4th of July a couple years ago and then hung it on the wall. I'll give my honest opinion about these and possibly piss off some of their buddies but I'm not one to...
