    Looking for Black Shooters

I recently had the opportunity to move back to Montana. I am now living in Helena and am wanting to meet others who shoot black. If you fit into this group and are interested in getting acquainted, drop me a line.

    Cleaning a pinned flintlock barrel

I do not think there is a best way to clean the barrel as long as it gets the job done. I am with you however. I shoot at least once a week and have been pushing the pins out of my flintlock rifles since the mid 1970's. My rifles are not worse for wear. I think it is to each his own...

    Cleaning 150/200 years ago

I own an interesting book titled "The Muzzle Loading Cap Lock Rifle". It was writing in 1949, however the author was very elderly then and grew up as a boy shooting with old timers from probably 1840 or so. He describes cleaning as being extremely important. "When out in the weather, no matter...

    Cleaning a flintlock barrel

baxter, when you get tired of fighting the hose and such. Get a good drift pin and tap those pesky pins out so you can wrestle that mean ole barrel in a bucket of water by itself. The other plus is you can put a nice light coat of oil on the underside of that ole barrel.

    Cleaning a flintlock barrel

When I bought my first flintlock with pins, I really worried about taking them out. I bought one of the hose affairs to attach to barrel at the vent hole. I always seemed to have difficulty getting everything lined up. Consequently I tried removing the pins and the barrel from the stock. I put...

    What ae you paying

After reading all of the previous comments I feel very luck. I can drive about 10 minutes to the Gun Works Emporium here and buy all of the black I want. Goex for $19 and Swiss for $24 per pound. I have recently purchased a large lot of Goex for $10/lb from a private party. A friend bought a...

    Lefty resale value

I have a simple solution to the problem. I no longer sell guns. I just buy them, use them, enjoy them etc. Over the years I have learned I do not like the sense of remorse I get over having sold a fire arm. I no longer sell them, just buy more safes! My kids can deal with how to sell...

    Good Inexpensive entry level rifle

I have been shooting black since the 70's and have been blessed with the opportunity to own some very high quality firearms. I have heard for years about how good the Lyman GPR is and have to say they look good. I always figured they were to cheap to be any good. Recently I bought one for fun. I...

Anyone shoot a Lyman 1860 revolver?

I have a Uberti 1860 Colt Army with fluted cylinders made in 1974 with the cutout and screws for the shoulder stock. It was my first C & B. Got it with $10.00 of trade goods.

    Lyman cock problem

I just bought a Lyman Great Plains rifle. On my rifle the flint is hitting the frizzen about 1/2 way down. Seems to spark ok. The gun shoots very well but the trigger is terrible. It really takes some doing to pull the set trigger. After it is set, the front trigger is still pretty hard to pull...

    Risks with powder horn

"but afterwards it so happen'd, that in getting out herself, a Horn of Gun -Powder which hung over the Window took Fire, and blew her away back into the Room, where she was burnt to Death; hardly any Thing of her Remains were to be found the next Day, but two or three of her Bones." Having...

    Pietta Remmi no more!

....and Uberti only did the castings and other basics. Colt did the case hardening, fitting, polishing etc. Buy a Colt and save lots of problems. In all honesty, I have Ubertis, Colts, Piettas and others and do not have any trouble with any of them

    Lock and trigger issues

First of all, thanks to all of you for trying to help me out! :bow I took the trigger assembly out and backed the spring screw out a bit and reassembled it. It would not work at all. I tightened it up a bit until the lock worked. It is still pretty tight or should I say "hard to pull". At...

    Lock and trigger issues

I just picked up a Lyman Great Plains rifle. I am curious if there is a reasonably easy way to change where the flint strikes the frizzen. It sparks good but hits about 1/2 way down. I am used to Siler locks and they strike much higher. Also this gun shoots quit accurately but the trigger is...
