    Another "No" to muzzleloader hunting....

NY Yankee, we get that out here on the Left Coast, too. One hunting club that advertises in the barber shops, etc. wants new blood to keep the organization solvent, but all the good spots and opening days are all booked up year-to-year by the founders of the club. Cute Ponzi scheme-type-deal...

Just a show of hands, how many make their own ammution?

My JBMR shoots .495 balls when clean, but in a long string at Rondy, I will keep 1 bullet board in the bag with patched .490 balls for when the Mountain Rifle gets a fouled bore. So casting balls makes sense to me. I get lead from the bait/fishing gear shop.

May have found my ultimate patch knife.

Deer antler (plain) would look so nice! Just trim the shank, epoxy it in, and done.

JUKAR Pistol review with mixed results...

I made the Pocket Pistol version over 40 years ago, all I remember is that it was Spanish, flintlock, and junk. So I removed the cock, frizzen and spring, ground off the pan, and added a drum and hammer off of a CVA. What a fun little gun. I actually patched some 240g .44mag slugs and they shot...

    Ball Starter - Insert needed

I needed a .56 ramrod tip, and made one out of the brass ferrule on a warped 2-piece pool cue. Made the cup in the end with a 1/2" ball router bit. Make friends with a machinist, or a buddy with a lathe.

Refreshing rifling with simple tools and few skills?

Tinhorn wet lube- 25% mineral oil in water. Try it, machinists use it to cool cutters and carry away chips. I use it for patch lube. Works OK in all my barrels.

    Sgian Dubh patch knife

Really nice piece of work, knife and sheath both! My patch knife was a broken straight razor in antler with epoxy.

    Mould lube disaster

I bought this gynormous tube of Paraffin to lube my bandsaw blade for metal cutting. I use that paraffin to flux my lead, does the vapor lube the mold? The RBs come out nice and shiny and filled out, and the mold and sprue plate work great. My sprue-knocker is a piece of 1" heavy-wall PVC pipe...

    1970s Riflemakers

I'm drawing a blank on the name of a riflemaker in Martinez, California in 1970. His first name was Byron, as I recall. He taught me how to shoot roundball rifles. Can anybody help? He built cap and flintlock full-stock and half-stock rifles in his garage, all were simply gorgeous, as I recall...

    I'll Never Hear Thunder . . .

HOORAYY!!! Now you can have some fun! I found that an old 9mm shell casing from the range (or local indoor? range) is a perfect fit over the #11 nipple, and gives clearance for the hammer to fall. I have one tied to my trigger guard with string, and use it to protect the nipple on my rifles...

    Traditional percussion

Possibly Henry could do it, they seem to understand the customers like us. JMO, of course. Tinhorn

.50 or .58? Mostly target, some hunting?

I own one barrel bored .50, and another barrel bored .58. The .50 shoots .495RB The .58 shoots .562RB Both are dead accurate, but the everyday 'shooter' is the .50, due to needing half of the powder needed for the .56 ball to fly the same. I shoot about 40 paces offhand at small 2-3" targets, no...

Why are others always tweaking with their guns?

I fiddle with rifles a whole lot, just to get that good off-hand group. My pistols are caplock PRB handguns, a Belt Pistol, and a Pocket Pistol, just good plinkers, IMO. I'm not a revolver guy, too much powder, ball, and caps for my budget ! Tinhorn

    3 sided triangle dovetail file

I live with my little 4" dial vernier mike to check dovetail depth, etc. Indispensable tool, IMO. And being an old, conniving codger, I clamp the barrel in a machinist vise with just a smidge of barrel proud of the vise, to prevent too-deep 'whoopsies', if you will. Vice jaws are an OK depth...
