    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

Thank you very much! The guy I made it for called my militia pouch "very high quality." I did a lot of research and took my time with it to make sure I got everything right, or as close to "right" as possible. The holes are 3/4." I thought about going to 7/8", as suggested here (Early Rev...

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

BTW, Gus, I forgot to thank you for sharing all that information in my thread, especially that PowerPoint. It's been EXTREMELY helpful and I appreciate it. I do have another question about the 19 and 24-hole "standard" (if there is such a thing in RevWar) pouches like this one: In making...

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

I believe that the short answer is no, since the straps tend to be sewn directly to the pouches, usually underneath the flap ends. HOWEVER, you can make your own by buying a pre-cut 72" vegetable-tanned strap in whatever width you want on Ebay or Amazon for about $20, and then cut and sew...

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

Gus, I've got all that info but thanks anyway. I'm using double bends from backs and butts--- 5/6 oz for the pouch body and strap, and 8 oz for flap. I'm keeping the stitching simple--basic saddle stitching with two needles, which has proven to be quick and easy. I can now sew a bag in about...

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

Awesome! Thanks for the tip on the dye! Exactly what I needed since Fiebing's dye and conditioner is pricey.

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

Thanks for the advice! Very helpful! Turns out that there's a Tandy retail shop within day-trip driving distance, so I'll be paying it a visit very soon to look for appropriate veg-tanned leather. Thanks again!

    18th Century Military Accoutrements Leather?

I'm currently teaching myself how to make FIW and RevWar military accoutrements (cartridge boxes, belts and straps, and scabbards). I've learned how to cut and drill the wooden ammunition blocks, and have successfully made a couple of mock-up "bags" with straps to learn how to stitch leather...

4 Famed Hunters and the Names of Their Guns

I found this article interesting, concerning the tradition of naming our guns. https://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/guns/4-famed-hunters-names-guns ****************************************************************************************************************************************************...

Middlesex Village Trading - Any good?

Not at all! I bought a 1st Land Pattern "Transitional" Bess with bayonet from Loyalist Arms last year, and the service and quality are excellent for an "Indian" firelock. Loyalist Arms ships the product in two pieces to get around those dumb importation laws...the stock and barrel come in one...

    LA Bess 1728 Ramrod Threads

I did a forum search but did not find a similar Q&A post so my apologies if this has already been asked and answered. THE SITUATION: My big beautiful 1728 "transitional" Brown Bess from Loyalist Arms (for F&I War and RevWar living history) has arrived, and I am currently acquiring all the...

I just received this from Estes Rockets about the GOEX plant!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, so you've said repeatedly, ad nauseum, on these good news threads. We get it. You want a hand out for your scout program. Sometimes things just don't work out. You need to get over it, and be glad that Goex had apparently been saved.
