    Alternate Hawken options

I found a TC White Mountain Carbine on a used rack a while back. It was in mint condition for $300 and in 54 caliber. It’s nice and lite, easy to carry and dead on with round ball and the heavier buffalo business. It has a traditional look, but is not your grandfather’s rifle. Makes a pretty...

    Lyman GPR

Got the Lyman out this morning to see how it shot. Since it’s new to me, but not new, I didn’t touch the sights. Shot two inches high with zero drift at 50 yards. Front sight is definitely thick, but wasn’t a problem. Today at least. It started raining pretty hard so we had to wrap it up before...

    Caliber and charge for coyotes

A smooth bore trade gun is something I want to add to the collection next. I’ve been using an M4 or similar caliber centerfire rifles until this year.

    Caliber and charge for coyotes

I’ve been taking a 54 out, but am considering taking my 32 out tomorrow morning. My buddy is using a 45 and that seemed like a better direction to go than with a 50 or 54. Less damage to the hide was my only reasoning for wanting to try a smaller caliber out. Thanks for the feedback fellas!

    Caliber and charge for coyotes

What is your favorite caliber and powder change for coyote hunting? While we’re at it, what’s your go to dog gun?

    Lyman GPR

Thank you Zonie. I’ll have to look at the front sight tonight when I get home. I did notice that the rear sight screw was loosened up quite a bit to raise the point of aim. I might consider putting a brass sign up front so I can see better. I’m a younger guy, but my eyes aren’t getting better...

    Lyman GPR

My apologies. Mine is a caplock. I don’t have a flinter in the quiver...Yet. As soon as I got this rifle home the wheels started turning. The gun is in great condition, but it’s still tempting to drop a flintlock and new barrel on it.

    Lyman GPR

Howdy! I’m fairly new to the forum, been here about six months or so, and have never posted before. Usually I can find whatever I need in other threads. Anyway, I traded an 1858 Navy Enfield yesterday for a Lyman GPR in 50. I couldn’t be happier, and I’m pretty sure I got the better end of the...

    .32 PRB for Mountain Lion

Most of the old timers I know here in Oregon used a 22 mag revolver for treed cats. Back when you could run dogs in Oregon. Cats have very thin skin and the 22 mag did the job ever time. If you have dogs barking at the bass of the tree it’s highly unlikely that the cat is going anywhere, even...
