    Fowler versatility confirmed.....

Congratulations! What a beauty of a buck and a fine looking smoothie. Well done, and the little picture story is great.

There's nothing more versatile than a smoothie!

How Many Process Their Own Game?

Our gang does our own venison cutting. We cut roasts, steaks and some nice stir-fry strips ourselves, then take all the lesser cuts in for processing into various sausage products or just have it ground. We've tried making our own sausages, but it was a ton of work with mediocre results. The...

    Clip of ML pheasants

Came across this ML pheasant hunting clip on YouTube and thought others might be interested. Sorry about the modern stuff afterward, but I'm not able to separate it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUjIhUTbw5s

    woodchuck and flintlock

Well done! Looks like he was sittin' up looking at you, and the shot was perfect. Re: the eatin'... I've cooked a big one and a young one. Both had decent flavour, but of course the younger was much more tender and preferred (and I seem to recall getting the big fella's pajamas...

    testing Skychief's special load

I love the thought of putting a light load on target, instead of scattering a ton of shot into the wild blue yonder and then searching for my fillings on the forest floor!

    Frizzen fixed....

Great job on putting more meat in the pot with a flinter.

    Why a .40?

OK, posting this here as I'm looking at this specifically from a hunter's perspective. I'll be wandering the grounds at Dixons soon (first time ever!) and have set some funds aside, in case I see a gun there that "speaks to me". I'm thinking either a rear-sighted .62 fowler (versatility, a...

    Dixon Gunmakers Fair - expectations?

Thanks for all the replies. Just a couple days to go - I'm getting excited. There's a FB web page for the Fair, and they posted a warning yesterday that they've had a lot of rain so parking areas may be wet and/or changed. Any more suggestions for places to eat or historical attractions...

    kinda dumb, I guess

Not dumb at all! But I'm having trouble seeing the pics...

    Smoothbore load testing

Oh no! Maybe try JB weld, but I don't know it that would ever release without some serious hammering. I guess it's a fine line between temporary but will come off when you want, and permanently stuck. If the barrel is oct-round a pretty slick solution might be to cut a dovetail for a rear...

Good day at the range with a new Caywood French Type "C"

Wonderful! I've owned my Caywood Type C for over a decade, and have never regretted the purchase for even a second. Mine is brass mounted with straight bore, and also shoots both shot and ball quite well.

    testing Skychief's special load

I use the same ones, Spence. They soak up the olive oil nicely.

    Smoothbore load testing

I find the velocity data especially interesting. As for accuracy, I suspect there are similar barrel dynamics happening and the search for the "sweet spot" (where the barrel releases the projectile at the same consistent point in it's movement) is the same as with centerfire rifles - I would...
