    Gunmaker's Fair 2022!

I was there Friday and today (Saturday). Having been to the show at Dixon's quite a few times, and living close by, I liked the venue and was excited when I heard it would be at the fairgrounds. While I enjoyed the show at Dixon's quite a lot, and it is sad to see that tradition end, the show...

    Extended late flintlock season success

I shoot 120gr 2F. The rifle has a 46" barrel, and to be very honest, I shoot that load because it puts the sights on the mark and lets me shoot without thinking about hold over/under out to 100 yards. Believe it or not, she went about 175 yards with that hit. It looks spectacular, and that's...

    TVM Iron Pennsylvania?

Just got home from Lewisburg. A nice little 36-cal schimmel came with me. ;)

    Extended late flintlock season success

From Jan 18, season ended on Jan 28....52 yards offhand through brush, but the big ol' 62 did the trick!

    58 vrs 62 cal

I have a 62, but not a 58. The rifle makes a huge difference. Mine is an early Reading style rifle. 46" Hoyt barrel, big wide buttplate.....I shoot 120gr 2F and it hits 2" high at 50 and 1" low at 100. Recoil to me is not much at all. Yeah, it's there, but I don't find it anything to even...

    TVM Iron Pennsylvania?

You might want to head to Lewisburg for the 18th Century Artisan Fair being held tomorrow and Saturday (Feb 3/4). You'll be able to see and handle tons of long rifles and talk to builders galore. :)

Ball flattening on impact or no?

    0.600" ball, 0.024" patch, 120gr 2F Goex. Distance was 42 yards.

Ball flattening on impact or no?

Shot a doe last night, but she didn't stop the 0.600 ball! The exit wound showed no obvious increase in size, though no major bone was contacted on the ball's passage.

    Pennsylvania Doe

That smile from getting a deer with a rocklock is really somethin', ain't it? :) I may need a sling like that. I haven't found a great way to use a pull rope with my long rifle, so I've been carrying it up/down the ladders. So far, so good, but a sling might be a worth investment.

First deer with the new rifle

She was by herself, which had me looking HARD with the binoculars at her head. Yeah, yeah, having binos with a flintlock feels a little weird, but I am only permitted to harvest does, and from this same stand the evening before, I had a small spike buck under my tree for over an hour. It is...

First deer with the new rifle

My new custom rifle finally got to strut its stuff tonight a bit. I sat a field edge stand that had deer near it almost every evening since the opener. With the wind (sustained at 10-15, gusts to 25-30), I started to think I'd made the wrong stand choice, but hoped the wind would calm down...

Help me figure out a squirrel rifle?

Yep! Didn't really intend for a caliber debate to honest, lol. I more was thinking about ideas on the overall build. Barrels, locks, the whole package, so to speak. I know calibers are personal to an extent. Everyone has favorites, and they feel strongly about them. :)
