    Patches

I tested various loads with my Hawken .50 last year and my best groups were shot with 60 grs of Olde Eynsford 3f and SWISS 3f. Using .015" ticking patches from Flintlocks LLC. These are lubed with bear wallow. Ox-Yoke Wonder patches did not produce good groups at my test distance of 50 yards. I...

    Hawken Target

I tried 2F but did not get any better group. I am working on making a solid buttstock rest. Based on my experiments, the patch makes a big difference in group size. I get better groups using ticking patches. I have SWISS 3f, Olde Eynsford 2f and 3f, and Goex 2f to use.

    Hawken Target

Forearm on a rest. Buttstock not on rest but I had it pretty secure in my arm which was on a shooting bag. I would like to try again with a better buttstock rest.

    Hawken Target

Still working on improving my Hawken .50 groups at 50 yards. This target shot with 60 grs of OE 3f and Flintlocks LLC patches. This is one of my better groups. These patches ram down the barrel easier than larger Ox-Yoke patches.

    Whitacre front sight for Zouave

I had Dan Whitacre install this front sight. Turn around time was extremely quick. The blade width is 0.08" and the distance from the bottom of the barrel to the top of the sight is 1.035". I will zero in primarily using Lyman wadcutters. Heavier Minie Balls and Round lead balls will require me...

    Navy Arms Zouave

I finally shot Lyman 575494 Minie balls today at 50 yds. I was very happy with the group. I used 40 grs of Olde Eynsford 2f.

    Navy Arms Zouave

The Minie balls insert easily with no play. A .575 Pin Gauge won't insert but a .574 Pin Gauge will. I hope to shoot these this weekend.
