    After Cleaning Question...

Make absolutely sure your barrel is dry before wiping down with Bore Butter (Oxyoke). Then I oversaturate the patch and leave a little extra at the muzzle. This helps prevent the barrel from drying out or sweating in between shoots.

    Question about patches

Quality patch material is hard to come by. After reading all these comments, keep them in mind and shoot for the best accurracy you can do. Some materials will fray easier than others. If you're happy with your shooting, buy lots of that patch material and BE HAPPY. If not, try a different...

    Minnie balls?

I never grease the bottom or use a wad. Neither has ever worked consistently to help the accuracy of my shooting. I use the softest lead around and light lube the outside of the conical.

.54 Lyman Deerstalker & Lee REAL question

I used REAL bullets for about 10 years. They work real good(sorry for the pun) if you use a harder lead alloy like around 90/10 because the flanges on the sides of the bullet need the hardness in order to maintain the rifling engraving. They are a good bullet for deep penetration, like for...

    GPR FAST TWIST

At 90 grains of 2F I can put 3 .50 cal Lee Traditonal Minnie conicals inside a three inch circle at 50 yards. I'm now experimenting with 3F and out to 100 hundred yards. And if you are interested I use the same gun for squirrel by loading down to 25 grains of powder and using a patched .490...

    Powder or 777 pellets

Pellets are 3x as expensive and powder. They need to be slightly crushed as you seat the sabot. They have a slight black end(black powder for ignition) that needs to go in first. They are about 20% lower in energy than powder. And this is suppose to be easier? :shake:

    Cap problem

All my problems went away when I started shooting Remington caps. They are fluted and stick on better than anyone's elses.

    Need help identifying a musket

What are the chances it was "freshened out" later in life and made into a smoothbore?

    Goex Pinnacle Powder

There is very little difference between the Pinnicle 2f and 3c powders compared to other powders using that grading system. I tried it for several months this year and found it accurate but lacking in energy. It shot good from my GPR pistol and poorly from my rifle. I ran some ball through my...

    lyman .50 Deerstalker loads

Remember the thickness on a commercial patch isn'et close to what they say it is. The best way to tell is to squeeze the patch in a micrometer, until it is taught and read the thickness. You will be surprised at what it will read. To save some money go to a fabric store buy some pillow...

    bird dogs

Ehelew Pointer named Nickolas. Nick has one purpose in life, well, maybe two. He also keeps my feet warm.

    question about "squib" loads

maybe, depends what you want to hit and how far with what caliber. I use 25 grains in a .50 and 30 grains in a .54 for squirrel and both loads do just fine out to 25 yards.

    Patch recovery ?

Either dye the patch, use a different color and maybe add a profound scent to the lube.

    RIFLE TWISTS

1 to 48 is considered midway between fast and slow twist. Fast is considered anything under 1 in 40. And anything above 1 in 60 is considered slow.
