I'm a big fan of Rice barrels but not sure of that twist rate.

    Northwest trade gun kit

I used Tracks fowler with fancy maple and a 5/8 barrel channel. I inlet the rest of the way by hand. It took me about three nights just to inlet the barrel but i enjoyed it. I think they get their stocks from Pecatonica River Supply and they are pretty good stocks. I also used a TC 1/28 flash...

    Northwest trade gun kit

Hello from a fellow Keystoner. I built a trade rifle a few years ago and didn't go with a kit. I pieced it together from parts at Track of the Wolf. I used a precarve stock and a double wedding ring Colerain .62 barrel. I used one of the Chambers English locks. I decided many projects ago that i...

    PRB or lead conical?

I have a few rifles all of which i shoot round ball. I do have a Lyman GPR in .54. A few years ago i killed a doe with it out in our hayfield that was very near 100 yards quartering to me. I hit her right behind the shoulder and the ball stopped as a lump under the skin on the rear ham.I have...

    20 ga English fowler

I think I would rather peal the skin off the bottom of my own feet than start in on removing the finish on that fine fowler. Thats a beautiful piece miner! String

anyone use a plain dowel as a ramrod?

I found myself without a ramrod one afternoon after using my previous one as a projectile. Oops! The one i replaced it with is a 5/16 hickory rod cut to length. I never did put a brass end on it. It works just fine for loading a roundball in my .40 cal. I use a brass range rod for cleaning when...

Where do i find a barrel?

Call and talk to Barbie at Jim Chambers flintlocks and Buckeye Barrels. I saw recently that they have a special on some Rice barrels of which I think are the best. String

touch hole: how big is too big?

I don't think .070" is overly large although I wouldn't go much larger. In my experience, a larger thouch hole makes for faster ingition. Try firing it a few times without picking the vent. My rifles don't like to be picked. String

    Are you under 40?

    37. I got into black powder shooting about 15 years ago. The late flintlock season here in PA is my favorite event of the year. The building bug has me now as much as the shooting. I appreciate all of the helpful information on this site. And, if your over 40: Thanks for helping us younger guys...

    Planning my first flintlock build

I think you can do it just fine. If you have learned the english language, understand the US tax laws, and can tie your own shoes then you have more than enough smarts to build a flintlock. Beware: one more is never enough, String
