    .498 ball in a .54cal rifle

You may get it to perform ok with the right patch. You might not be able to hunt with it, however. For instance, Idaho has a rule saying a projectile has to be within .01 the bore size to be legal for big game. Hence, in a .54 it has to be a .53 projectile or it ain't legal. Course, if you...

    Pan primer

I bought one of those primers. Although they are different sizes they both throw 3 grains of 4F powder "approximately." My problem, I think three grains is about twice as much primer as I need for my 12-gauge fowler. I thought about shortening the end of the tube to see if that would reduce...

where can I get a (turn screw)tool like this

A somewhat similar tool is the Pickering Tool, said to be the first musket tool adopted by the Continental Army. Truth is, it was designed and put in the manual, but has no record of manufacture and issue. I believe Townsend's has one. There are a few sutlers who carry them.

    Another New in Idaho

Just moved 'back' to Idaho after some absence. I am retired, enjoy traditional muzzleloaders. I currently reenact the third quarter 18th century. I see some old friends here already... Sparks
