    Home Made Oil Cloth

I made a 12' x 12' diamond out of 10 ounces canvas. I washed and dried the material twice before sewing to tighten up the weave. I then mixed 50/50 mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil and added in a paint spray can cap of red iron oxide. I sprayed it on with a bug sprayer and brushed it in...

    shot and ball bag set

Just made a couple of bags this weekend. Both are made from deer rawhide I made myself. I soaked the rawhide in walnut dye to turn it brown and loosen it up. The spouts are made from bamboo that I stained in red mahogany set with beeswax and wrapped with linen cord. The stitching is waxed linen...

.62 tulle has a tight spot in the barrel

I recently completed a tulle kit. I found this kit at a sale. I have been told by a few people it is a Centermark from the 80'S. I have shot about 60 round balls thru it in 4 outings. It has a tight spot in the barrel about 4 inches down from the muzzle and last for about 2 inches or so. Even...

    Another Shelter

Crewdawg Nice shelter. I made a similar one from a queen size sheet and added iron oxide to the waterproofing mixture to get a reddish brown color. What are you using for tent stakes to keep you weight down. I am planning a squirrel hunting trek this fall with my 13 year old and am trying to...

    brain tanned leggings

I am about to make my first pair of leggings from deer I tanned myself and could use some help on patterns. I am trying to portray the longhunters. I will be wearing these with a hunting shirt that goes down to mid-thigh and a breech cloth. My questions are how high past the knee should the...

    .45 cal flintlock issues

Thanks to all for the observation on the flint. I am now not sure if we where trying to fire the flintlock with the flint backwards or if my son just put it in backwards after the cleaning. I will start over tonight and see how the gun reacts and take better photos.

    .45 cal flintlock issues

I am having issues with a very inconsistent spark and the frizzen only snapping open about half way when it is struck by the flint.(It appears that the flint stops the frizzen about half way.)I have adjusted the flint according to other post and it seems to work a little better with the flint...
