I'm 83 and still marching on! Back in about 1947 or so it all started with my new Daisy model 25 BB gun and has grown since into about all kinds of firearms, however now I've slipped back into shoot mostly higher end air guns but still buying cap and ball revolvers and might actually shoot...
For over 50 years I have used WD40 to clean and then wipe with REM oil and never had a rust problem. Also soak my patches in WD 40 with round ball. Just lucky I guess.
I have about seven under hammer guns and being left handed I love them . One is a bench rifle that weighs over 30 pounds. Just need to get them out and shoot more often.
After digging around in my shoot shack and other places I found several tins of older caps which should do me for a long time. I just don’t shoot as much as I did years ago. Just getting too lazy I guess😇
I just found a tin of Alcan G 12 F caps which I probably purchased 40 or so years ago. Were they a good cap? Or should I not use then? The tin looks almost full and in good shape. Any info would be appreciated.
I have used WD40 to clean and on my patches for over 50 years and not a rust problem ever. For me it’s simple and its works. After setting a day or so I run an oil patch down the barrel and then back in the gun safe it goes.
Loaded with about 28 g 3f powder and a 3/4 full primer of same powder and a.490 Hornady prb. I’m using a 5/8 flint set with a gap of about 1/16-inch clearance. To my surprise I just heard one loud boom. No delay that I could tell. So far I’m a happy camper ! Later I’ll check and see how...
