    I'm back

Since things have changed here it looked like the best place to post. I'll have to do the premium thing when I can.

    Damaged Chisel

I usually fix them starting at a really coarse stone depending on how bad it is and slowly work my way down. Made the mistake of deciding to grind one once.

    Annoyed

Ok think I finally found the issues with my gun. Thought it was odd that shooting offhand I hit what I aimed at. Tried the rest on the bench with another gun and shots went all over as well. Had someone else shoot and realized the muzzle was jumping pretty bad. Found the non-firing issue. Nipple...

    Annoyed

Just cleaned the nipple. It might have gotten plugged. Just seems odd that it was firing just fine last time I had it out. I take it off for major cleanings so I dont get gunk in it and leave it on every other time to flush it out. Do have my ram rod marked. Says its right where it's supposed...

    Annoyed

There is powder in it. Got that right :haha: Rifle was exceptionally clean this time. Started questioning the nipple last night. Then how would it have gotten blocked when I had removed it to do a major cleaning when I was scrubbing and polishing a rough spot in the bore. Guessing something...

    Annoyed

First it was my guns accuracy and now it won't even fire. Doesn't make sense. Worked fine 2 weeks ago. I had the nipple off when I cleaned it so i know I didn't get oil in it. Several caps and nothing. Added a few grains under the nipple and a new cap and nothing. Think I'm done for now and will...

    Slowly but Surely

Taking all the excellent advice I have been given here I am slowly but surely working on it to see if the accuracy on that rifle can be improved. Next up will be the larger ball size but I don't see me getting it done in time to hunt this year. Really hate pushing myself with certain things then...

    We are out of style....

I got my 13 year old nephew interested the other day when I was attempting to sight my gun in. He kept asking questions and I finally let him shoot it and had him loading and shooting it soon after. All he could talk about is how he wants a muzzle loader when he is older.

Shots going way off point of aim

I'm using .530 Ball now and .018 patches. I'm finding .535 and .015 patches. Trying to figure out the patch size mostly if I go up the that size ball.

Shots going way off point of aim

Don't know what was caked in the rifling but after a good scrub with steel wool and the pad (Which actually worked really good)then water to clean it out I can see the lands and grooves very clearly and there is pitting about the area I was having issues and upwards. Can't tell how far down but...

Shots going way off point of aim

No, Pyrodex RS is all I can get at the moment. If I can fix this issue I'll buy several pounds of the real stuff in a couple months when my budget isnt going elsewhere. Been using .530 Ball and .018 patch with 80 grains. Tried higher and it did the same thing. Not any worse. Just got back from...

Shots going way off point of aim

I did swab once between shots this last time. Didnt seem to make any differance. Still had the issue of the ball not seating the last inch. Accuracy was gone from the first shot with a clean barrel. Was using a crisco/beeswax mix. Seemed ok but until I did a spit patch just because and loading...

Shots going way off point of aim

The chamfer looks good. Last 2 times I shot it I havn't recovered a single patch. No idea where they are going. I shoot in my father in laws back pasture which is mowed once a week so I would assume I could find them. Have a lot of those green pads so I'm in luck there.

Shots going way off point of aim

Just a thought. Since I was feeling resistance at one point is it possible any pitting there or build up in that area is causing the patch and ball to seperate when I fire so the ball is basicly bouncing out the muzzle? Also remembered on the last couple shots the ball didnt want to see the last...
