    .32 VS .36

The thing that I like about 32 cal is that # 5 lead shot is a little loose but makes a nice round ball size for that caliber. A bag of lead shot goes a long way in a small bore gun.

    Browning Mountain Rifle Help

Does the barrel feel smooth when you are running the 5th patch down it. Smaller ball patch combos will always help. However if you barrel is rough and getting worse then you might take some corrective action on it.

    Browning Mountain Rifle Help

Your barrel is allowing for residue to build up. It could be your patch lube, your patch ball size, or the barrel could be showing signs of roughness brought on by pitting or another kind of surface damage. When you clean it after the first shot does it clean up quickly or do you have to run...

Target shooting. Roundball .440 vs .445

A lead ball will expand to fill the grooves. Having to beat the hell out of the ball to get it to seat will leaves marks on the ball that can effect your group. Also if your patch is showing lots of burn and gas leak marks your group will also suffer. Consistency of chamber pressure is very...

A rifle that needs swabbed after every shot on a woodswalk??

Lots of good advice, Many years ago I built a North West Gun, It was a rifled 58cal but the od on the barrel was the same as a standard 62 cal NWTG barrel. For this reason the groves were very shallow and were wide much like a civil war musket. The gun would drive tacks for the first 3 shots...

WITHDRAWN John Browning Mountain Rifle 54 cal

Thanks for the info on the Jag. I owned two JBMRs (Johnathan Browning Mountain Rifle) in the late 70's. I used them almost daily. Since there are way more JBMR owners and or admirers on here there are two tips that I can share. 1, Pin your ramrod tips. If the hudmitity drops the wood can...

WITHDRAWN FS Full stock, Flint rifle with a Bill Large Barrel. Unfired

Hi Bob I read that post. Yes it was interesting. I ran down stairs and looked at the markings on my barrel. It is as stated in the first post. No additional markings are on the barrel. From that I am assuming that only old hands touched this barrel. I like fine shooting barrels so if it...

WITHDRAWN FS Full stock, Flint rifle with a Bill Large Barrel. Unfired

Fit and finish are good, it's not as ornate as some might want it to be. I would think that the rifle was designed to be a hole shooter. After retirement I found myself in a home in Minnesota where it's not as easy to step out my door and shoot. That was one item on my check list that never...

WITHDRAWN FS Full stock, Flint rifle with a Bill Large Barrel. Unfired

A couple of years ago I bought a few rifles from a collector. This is one of the guns. FlintLock appears to be a the large Siler lock 50 cal with a 15/16th 38 inches long Bill Large Barrel. The lock has had a flash or two in the pan. But the barrel appears to be unfired. The barrel is stamped...
