    Tumbler and Sear replacement

Tempting to try to make them, but probably more expensive taking into account all the new toys I'd need to buy for my small workshop! On the other hand, Christmas is coming.

    Tumbler and Sear replacement

Hello all, I have a Belgian percussion pistol, back action, double barrel (over under), that I picked up in an auction. One of the nipples was broken off, which I've replaced. However, on that side the tumbler was broken, and the tip of the sear was bent. Fortunately, the other side is intact...

    War clubs

I made this from a piece of newly dead Chestnut, a hybrid tree I planted about 15 years ago but which finally succumbed to the blight I believe. Not really trying to reproduce any historical item, just too much Covid time on my hands!

Colonial era blackpowder vs today's black powder.

The Foxfire book #5 has been brought up in this forum from time to time over the years. It has a section on selfmade black powder, and several vintage photos of the method of making BP from cave droppings. 15 bucks on Amazon. Many people have the whole series...

Stuck ramrod in .45 cal pistol barrel

I had similar problem with a early 19th century percussion rifle, stuck metal range rod. The breech plug was completely socked in, appeared to have not moved in more than 150 years and I was reluctant to force it... didn't want to break off the tang! Heating would also change the color of the...

Leave it loaded vs. new charge daily?

FYI, I'm an occasional collector of old percussion and flintlock rifles, and I've bought two at auction that were still loaded... I now assume they all are. Should have anyway!! If you or your estate ever sells your guns, make sure someone makes it safe for the next owner!
