Built a serious gun safe! Bank Vault

My flintlocks hang on the wall. I like looking at them. If someone steals them at least they won't use them for a drive by shooting. Modern firearms in a much less expensive safe.

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

Mine sat in the back of a closet, which is one of first places burglars look. So I hung them on the wall where I can see them. :) If they are stolen  I doubt they will be used to commit crimes. :) Been a long time since a flintlock was used to rob a connivence store.

Any idea what kind of barrel this is.

A few days ago I was shooting my Baker Rifle at a friend's farm and he mentioned that he found a old musket barrel on the attic under some floor boards (house built in 1803). He brought it out. It has a 69 cal. bore, a hole drilled for a vent 46.5 inches from muzzle and a bayonet lug close to...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Went to a buddies farm and shot the 36 cal. 1851 Navy using paper cartridges. The paper cartridges fit in plastic ammo tray, 380 acp cartridges come in. Used 9mm box as they were a little tall for 380 box. Can't say I shot it very well but it was fun. There was some paper residue left in the...

Lockable Case for a long rifle ??

Federal Laws do not classify BP guns as firearms. Does NJ make a distinction between BP and modern smokeless guns?

Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

Back when I couldn't get BP I bought a bottle of Pyrotex RS. Didn't use much before I got a new supply of BP, I have decided to shoot the Pyrotex up and found it works well in my 1851 Navy 36 cal. revolver. Punches holes in a paper target as good as BP. Cool? Who care do what you want.

    Knives in Colonial America

Here's a picture of one of grandfather's Barlow knives. You can see the blade is worn. He had a small farm and once owned a sawmill but mostly used farm trucks to haul stuff to market. The stuff varied depending on time of year. Produce, salt fish, corn, firewood, oyster shells, etc.

Is there a safe way to dry fire a percussion revolver?

Cleaning 1851 Navy. Using plastic tray from grocery store (sausage) to hold parts while soaking in Balistol. Helps keep mess down. Also use another tray to keep small parts in while cleaning gun.

    Kashtuk Bowcraft Early Trade Gun

I found him on IG. He does fine work. I got a trade gun which is just about as plain a gun as they made at the time. I wanted a gun that would represent the gun a poor farmer would have had on the frontier, or, a gun tradeed to the native American's. His trade gun fills the bill nicely. I...
