ADDING SOLDER TO LEAD FOR ROUND BALL CASTING

You want 100% pure lead for round ball, especially for revolvers. A friend of mine tried 10% antimony, and the balls were too hard to seat.

Inquiry about current replica percussion revolvers

I just got one of the Cimarron Man with no Name conversions (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly version). Seems tight and has a great trigger. I always heard Cimarron does a tune up to the Ubertis they get. I was concerned, because I'd seem some threads of people returning their Cimarrons for...

Difference in Cimarron Colt Walker vs "regular" Uberti Walker?

I'd always heard Cimarron does a tune up job on them.

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

Honestly, I doubt Midway even opened the box after they got it from Uberti. A couple years ago, I ordered an Indian made repro bayonet for my Baker rifle. It arrived heavily coated in rust. I was able to clean it up pretty well, but some spots of pitting remain. I'd put the blame on Uberti...

    1842 pistol real or repro?

A coupe of years ago I bought a Model 12 trench gun off Gunbroker at a great price. Had the ornance bomb and other marks you'd expect. Fortunately, the seller had disclosed he paid for an original, later to find it was faked, which is why he sold it so cheap. I just need to be sure I tag it...

    1842 pistol real or repro?

I checked both my percussion and flint versions, and the markings of yours are not like either of mine. Very odd they'd go to the trouble of remarking a pistol that's not that rare or expensive. Usually the fakers do it to one that would at least double the value.

    Hitting low on Frizzen

You can also put a small dowel between the back of the flint and the jaw screw, if turning the flint upside down does not help. Oops, just saw Hatman said the same!

    Gun Lost :’(

Fingers crossed. The one time USPS lost a rifle I shipped, they said they had to wait 90 days until the insurance would be paid. They don't declare a package lost until then. But the earlier comments may be correct about USPS being slow. I sent a letter from Austin to Dallas, which normally...

    Napolean movie reviews?

Austerlitz was interesting for the use of the signal corps and tactics. Waterloo was condensed to 10 minutes, so felt underwhelming. The Rod Steiger version was much better, but that entire movie was devoted to that one battle. Cramming 30 years of his life into 2.5 hours is what made this...

Do you adjust your load or POA for distance?

I always use the same load and adjust POA. I figure the mountain man would never know what distance the grizzly bear would pop up. At matches with known distances, I do see guys that adjust their charge, but I always just adjust my POA. For my 50 cal Hawken, the bullet drop is almost...

Is there a manufacturer of black powder ammo. Want to buy a original spencer rifle, but don’t want to reload rim fire cartridges.

S&S Firearms sells a centerfire conversion block. It works well in my original Spencer, and centerfire Spencer brass is easy to find.

    Iron Pyrite

Great for wheellocks (in fact, the only thing you should use), but I think they're too crumbly for a flint lock and wouldn't last very for many shots.

    Coehorn Mortar

I shoot mine occasionally on New Year's and 4th of July. It's one like Dixie Gun Works sells - cast iron with steel liner. I built a reducing insert that holds an amount of powder equal to a 35mm film canister - probably about 250 grains. Fires a racquet ball out of site. I'd love to see a...
