    Why not Pyrodex in a flintlock?

    Hodgdon states on their website that after firing brass cartridge cases loaded with Pyrodex to immediately drop them in a bucket of water with vinegar added to nuetralize the residue. Pyrodex residue will destroy the brass case quickly otherwise.

    It WAS used. There are no big navy guns anymore. They were all deactivated 30 years ago. The two battleships left in the fleet (IA and WI) fired their remaining WW2 era ordnance in the first Gulf War ('91)

    Is muzzle velocity affected by cap types? (Musket vs #11)

    When shooting my .72 Kodiak and .69 October Country GASR, musket caps gave a solid 100 fps advantage over #11's. But we are talking about powder charges 140 grains or more.

    Weaver scope bases for any Marlin lever action are flat on the bottom. Grand Slam series are two piece and made of steel. Drill, tap, install.

    Hesitant on a .58

    Swiss powder gives a big velocity boost. No problem getting over 1650 fps with 100gr. of Swiss 2F in my .58 with prb. Triple 7 will also do it.
