    Got my old leanto back

Gave it away 20 years ago? You may want to consider simply giving it a decent burial, and getting a new one!

    Repairing a cracked wrist

Thanks for the advice, all. I like the way the brass looks. What gauge brass should I use? Do i need to finish the edges somehow, and should it be glued in place, as well as pined/nailed?

    Repairing a cracked wrist

I have a Doglock purchased from Loyalist Arms. Recently, I noticed a crack across the wrist (due to abuse, I'm sure, I use it in reenactments and I'm not shy about "dying"). I tried to reinforce it by drilling a pilot hole and installing a screw from the top of the wrist, but it appears to have...

    Waterproofing canvas

Thompsons makes the finished canvas extremely flammable. Not a good idea. Spend the extra, and buy a good grade of treated canvas (like Sunforger) to start with.

    Removing slime mold from cooperage

Basicly, you probably can't completely remove it, even with chemical cleaning. Wood is too porous to allow for effective chemical cleaning unless it is already fairly clean and free from infection. With slime mold, even filling it (and I mean filling, not rinsing) with boiling water several...

    Cure for nasty canteen taste?

I use a half-moon canteen; I figure, up until a few years ago, I was a British subject, and in the militia, so who else would I get equipment from? I cheated, and got a stainless-steel one; it's covered in blue wool.

    shootable or deathtrap?

Loyalist ships the lock and stock/barrel separately for the same reason, as they are only shipping "parts", not a complete weapon. I've had lots of luck with my Loyalist Arms Doglock. There was one issue at the begining, which they fixed no problem. It shoots reliably, although I have no idea...

    Packs, haversacks, equipment and camping?

The full load of the infantry soldier hasn't changed for over 2000 years; the Roman Legions carried about the same amount. As the years pass, what goes into that load has changed, with armor taking up less and less, and other things being carried instead. Easy to see why, too; that's about the...
