    My first powder horn.

You did a great job, especially since it's your first powderhorn. Some horns did have threaded knobs in the butt cap . Usually you see that with larger ones associated with cannons.

    Doglock questions

I have a repro of a Miroku French 1763 lock converted to a doglock by Jim Everett. The cock had a "spur" welded to it. A dog was formed of steel and screwed to the lockplate to interact with and hold the cock. It also retains the half cock notch on the tumbler.

Pontiac in the 1750's admonished his warriors for getting "stoned" smoking kinickinic (sp?) .

    Kibler Fowler

Of course Jim plans on a Hawken next which may be a percussion. At the open house they displayed a Colonial rifle that had been converted to percussion. Where there's a will there's a way.

    Kibler Fowler Update

In the book Thundersticks the author mentions that the native Americans thought the serpent/ dragon side plate represented the water serpent in their culture which balanced the Thunderbird of the sky demonstrated in the roar of the gun (Thundersticks).

    Kibler Fowler Update

True but the book contains an entire chapter on British -Style fowlers . There are 23 fowlers that can be used as references for a Kibler Fowler build not counting the New England styles. British design and influence on American gunsmiths did not stop at the Atlantic Ocean's shore.

    Kibler Fowler Update

The same lock as on the Colonial and Woodsrunner would be appropriate as they are early English style flintlocks. The planned Hawken rifle will require a new lock .

    Kibler Fowler Update

Well I own two Colonials (.54 & .58 cal.) and a .54 cal. Woodsrunner. Now I'm saving for a Kibler Fowler, probably in 16 g and either walnut or cherry. The carving and furniture look great, however I was looking for the "flying dragon" sideplate on the Richard Wilson of London Fowler in the book...

    Kibler side effect?

What IS a "Pennsylvania style" rifle in your opinion? There were many gunsmith schools in Pennsylvania over the 18th and 19th centuries. I personally like the early Christian Springs , Lancaster, and later Bedford styles. But I also like Virginia styles as well. Kibler rifle kits can also be...

    Kibler side effect?

Kibler longrifles offers flintlocks , parts, and supplies that you can order . Supply your own rifle blank and you can scratch build your own work of art. There is no reason you have to buy a CNC stock, if you don't want to.

    Kibler side effect?

Not so. Jim is an artist, craftsman, engineer, and businessman and family man. All are important parts of the same individual. You should visit his place of business and see how it is growing. He is providing jobs for over a score of people while providing quality kits and parts for our hobby...

    G Gedney Godwin ?

I would only buy from Godwin, if he were at an event and you could take the item with you. I did so at Cowpens several years ago. I am quite happy with that round hat. Later I ordered a bayonet scabbard and some fittings. It took all Summer to receive them.

    Kibler side effect?

My brother was an engineer and professor who among other subjects lectured on CNC equipment. We were in fact talking about you and your operation last night. I own three of your muzzleloaders and although he is an avid gun collector he hasn't caught the bug as of yet, buy I am working on him...

    My first attempt at Rococo

In the late 70s I built a Reading school rifle in cherry. I was anxious to get it done for reenacting so I inlet the square tang. Seeing my mistake I inlet a small piece of cherry into the tang area. The barrel tang should have ended in a "thumb nail." So I filed the tang end and inlet it in to...
