Well now I get wait (new smoothbore).

That is a fine gun. I admired it many times wishing that I had the funds for it. Happy to see it found a good home. Glad to see my wants can no longer torture me. At least for the time being.

    My fusil

That is a really good looking French gun. I’ve always liked the lines of them.

    Fusils!? :D

You guys have some good looking guns. I’ve always liked the lines of the French trade guns.

    An Alden-inspired ‘Mayflower’ wheellock carbine

That is a really neat gun. Till this day I had only heard of wheel locks, but had never seen one. I must say they look impressive. Now I just need someone to explain how they work.

    Escopeta anyone?

I have never seen one of these guns before, and I must say it is awesome.

How do you load your smoothbore for shot?

For my skeet shooting I use a square load. I start with 80 - 85 3f powder charger. Then I use a nitro card in each barrel. I put half a cushion wad that’s been soaked In olive oil down each barrel. Then use the powder scoop for my shot. I then ram a shot card in each barrel. Now I’m ready to go...

    Hello from Indiana, United States

Welcome fellow Hoosier. I live a half hour west of Plainfield. I only do black powder skeet shooting so I can’t help you with hunting, but I do hope you get the chance to go to Friendship.

What is your favorite barrel length?

All of my barrels are 28 inches. I have one flintlock Buffalo gun in 24 gauge. Then there is the Pedersoli kodiak rifle with included shotgun barrels. My favorite is my 12 gauge Ethan Allen. I have to it’s weight is what I like the most about it the weight really eats up recoil on the skeet field.

    All around shotgun

Where you live can have a determining factor. I know here in Indiana 20 gauge is the the smallest you can hunt turkeys with. So you might want to check your states regulations.

    Favorite gauge

I have 3 12 gauge shotguns. I like that you can up or down load for different shooting. I’d really like to get a a Fowler or Tulle in 20 gauge for flintlock shooting

    3F Shotgun Load

I use a square load of 85 grains 3f and #9 shot in my antique Ethan Allen. It’s great load on the skeet field. I still have to work up a hunting load

    Poor boy rifle?

Well I’m already looking for an early trade gun, and that will open up a whole new can of worms. I will have to find the right outfit for my Ethan Allen side by side cap lock shotgun. So what I’m hearing from all of you I will have plenty of company going down the rabbit hole.

    Poor boy rifle?

Thank, for all the replies you have given me. I actually do not do reenacting. I just like wearing the right outfit for the time while hunting. Everyone has given me a lot to think about.

    Poor boy rifle?

It is in .45 with 42 inch barrel. It also uses a large Siler lock. I don’t know what the measurement across the flats are. The barrel is stamped G.R. Davis stamped at the breech. It is stamped on the barrel J Garner for J Stoner.
