I grew up near the small town of Lawton, in west Michigan where my family has resided for the last 160 years or so. I got my first muzzleloader at age 15, a CVA percussion .50 cal. and have owned muzzleloaders ever since. I have never owned a modern in-line muzzleloader. My interest in family history has drawn me further into the world of black powder. My ancestor immigrated from Germany around 1750 and settled on the shore of Lake Champlain a few miles north of Ticonderoga and were witness to the battle of Valcour Island. The family fled to the south of Fort Edward and settled on the Hudson River before the Burgoyne Campaign where the old homestead and burying grounds still exist.<br />
I completed a 4 year apprenticeship and worked as a Union Carpenter for about 8 years before entering the medical profession. I now work as Respiratory Therapist. I live with my wonderful and patient wife Faith who puts up with all of my hobbies with grace. I have one daughter, Julia who will be 2.
