    Leman trade rifle

I'm hoping to travel to PA soon and maybe see a couple of original Leman rifles in person!

    Leman trade rifle

Thanks! Yes indeed a lot of Lemans guns went west on those famous trails. I really enjoy the history of that period too. I used two leather dyes for the stripes, one is Angelus English Tan dye for the lighter stripes followed by very thin darker stripes made with Fiebing's Dark Brown dye. I did...

    Leman trade rifle

Looking back at the thread I see I forgot to provide the answer to your question. I finally test fired in early June. I'm pretty happy with the result. These are the first three shots at 50 yards, sitting at a bench.

It took me about an hour and a half to paint both sets of stripes on this gun. Really it was a lot easier than I expected

    Leman trade rifle

I just finished this Leman trade rifle. I was going for something like the gun included in the Rifles of the American Indians book. I hand painted the stripes over aqua Fortis stain to get the Leman style faux curly maple look. I used two different shades of alcohol based stain and rubbed them...

    More canoe paddles

Thought I would share a couple canoe paddles I have finished up recently. The one with the diagonal stripes is Spanish cedar and the other is carved from a really nice cherry board

Last night my 4H Shooting Sports club tried out my Hawken rifle for the first time. The gun performed very well and everyone shot well at 50 yds.
