    Carburetor cleaner

When I was in the army someone had got the bright idea to use carb cleaner on our M16s because of an early inspection. It worked. So well in fact that it removed all of the finish from the lower receiver and other parts. Oh yes, they were indeed clean!

    The BAKER RIFLE

Thanks! It was a TRS kit, more or less. It came with an 1823 lock kit, and I wanted to build the earlier 1805 version. So I waited for about 2 1/2 years and finally got a lock. The patchbox and lower ramrod pipe are originals.

    The BAKER RIFLE

Nice! I finished up my Baker a little while ago and am anxious to get out and shoot it. Of coarse I had to watch Sharpes Rifles again!

I have seen many 18th century German guns that were blued.

    Wm Turvey Rifle

I wondered if maybe a wrench of some sort was made for it. I'm sure that would foul pretty quickly. I know nothing of its history. I bought it from an antique shop in Britain. It has been used quite a bit, judging from the frizzen wear.

No, it's a mount for an 18th century ACOG. Just kidding.....

    Wm Turvey Rifle

Yes, it's just grooved so that you can see through it. This definitely came before the Ferguson design on the evolutionary scale. What's interesting is that before Turvey died he was making Ferguson like rifles with a screw breech/trigger guard.

That's not the rear sight. The notch at the end of the breech serves as the rear sight. Also, it could be loaded as a regular muzzle loader if you didn't want to breech load it.

    Wm Turvey Rifle

Turvey died in 1745, so this precedes the Ferguson rifle by a few decades. The 34" barrel is approx. .75 caliber and rifled with an approx. twist of 1/48". This is a very nice handling rifle and I'll bet was quite the shooter in its day. It uses the same principle as a Ferguson in that the...

    Wm Turvey Rifle

I tried to add a video of this, but it was too large for the site. If you are on FB look for it on the Flintlock Era page. I added a bunch of pictures and a video of how it loads.
