    First shot pouch

Spent some time making my first shot pouch to accompany my woodsrunner. By no means perfect, but I had a lot of fun putting this together. My use of the edge creaser around the flap edge was a bit squirrely, but I have never really done leather work so it was a good first go. I watched the the...

Tell me of your cleaning rituals

I’d be interested in giving this a try, I noticed it says it’s safe on factory bluing. Any experience with browned barrels or cold bluing or Jax black? Just wouldn’t want to damage the barrel finish on my TVM or woodsrunner.

Just bought my first flintlock. What do I need to take it out shooting, and what do I need to know to have a safe and enjoyable time.

There are some good YouTube channels to check out as well that have flintlock info. To name a couple: Duelist1954 https://m.youtube.com/@duelist1954/videos ILoveMuzzleloading https://m.youtube.com/@ILoveMuzzleloading/videos capandball https://m.youtube.com/@capandball/videos

    Woodsrunner range day

Thanks all. Here's some pics in this evenings sun. Again, apologies, pic heavy.

    Woodsrunner range day

Yeah, I know what you mean. I caved after seeing one too many woodsrunner threads. It’s a fun project for sure.

    Woodsrunner range day

Apologies, a little pic heavy. I Finished up my woodsrunner yesterday. This was my first time putting together a kit and I certainly picked the right time to do it. I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but Kibler has done a stellar job with this kit. I've seen other kits for sale online and...

Woodsrunner almost complete and a question

I had thought about it, but the surface is smooth and those light scratches aren't really noticeable in person. Plus I'm not going to keep the brass polished, just going to let it age as it decides to. So in the end I don't think they are going to show at all, can always clean it up later if I...

Woodsrunner almost complete and a question

Thanks all. I finished adjusting the fit of the ramrod and put on a coat of permalyn sealer tonight. Just waiting on the paper to sand the machining marks off the lock, but I may just have to take it for a test run before finishing that up!

Woodsrunner almost complete and a question

Just a couple more things to do and my woodsrunner kit will be completed. I finished the barrel and trigger plate with jax black the other night and last night I sanded out the butt plate and re-assembled the rifle in its entirety. I left the stock at four coats of permalyn sealer. I was...

Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

Thanks! I agree, it has really grown on me. I will leave it as is and just give it another coat or so of permalyn.

Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

I'm just following what Jim said in his video demonstrating the finishing process on a woodsrunner. According to him Permalyn Sealer can be used as the final finish. I guess its the same as the Permalyn Finish, just thinner. I'm totally new to this, so just following his suggestions in the...

Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

Got the second and third coats of permalyn sealer on today. I was concerned after that first coat dried so dark. Its still dark, but does look very nice. Here are a couple pics after the third coat this evening in the evening sun. Thinking maybe one or two more coats?

Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

Thanks for the suggestion. I plan to put a coat of finish in the inlets and what not but according to Kibler iron nitrate can cause rust problems on the metal parts if used in the inlets. He also noted that originals were not stained in the inlets or areas not seen.

Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

Interesting, the wood darkened up quite a bit as the finish dried. Its almost a deep chocolate. Suppose there is no way to lighten it at this point. Bit darker than I had hoped for, guess I will know for the next time. Or will retain that original color when the finish was first applied as...
