    Killer Wax

Bees use pollen and nectar. They will store both for later use. As they tend to focus on one crop mostly at a time, the bees found your sweet corn to be just right to take the pollen.

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

Yes indeed.. that drove me crazy. I knew it was in my best interests to save my ears, but... Just couldn't get past it. Funny.

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

You know, I did miss it. Thanks. It was a mystery for a long while until one of the fellows in the Illinois Valley Blacksmiths explained it.

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

Antique English manufactured anvils were marked with three numbers on the side of the body. The left represented units of 112. The middle, quarters of 112. The right number indicated pounds up to a quarter of 112. It was a now obsolete system called English Anvil Weight

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

I secured my anvils to wooden stumps by heating up say a round bar of mild steel tapered to a point to a good heat and long enough to give it some inches of length to be driven hot into the stump and right up against one of the feet of the anvil leaving enough to be bent over the foot to secure...

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

In addition to holding the anvil down it is also really important to set it at the right height. Perhaps someone could explain it better than I. But I will give it a shot. Standing beside the anvil facing parallel to the line of the anvil, horn to heel, and grasping your forging hammer, the face...

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

Very definitely there are cast iron anvils. That Fisher-Norris anvil was most assuredly cast iron with a steel face forge welded and the top of the horn steel faced. It was as I remember about 150+ -- pounds and I think it was dated 1858? An eagle logo was present on the side. I used it for a...

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

The hole on the bottom side is for a porter bar I believe. The forged anvil is welded together in sections. Cast iron anvils are just that, cast. The Fisher-Norris anvil with an Eagle logo on the side is cast iron with a tool steel top face and steel topped horn. Darnedest thing I ever saw. I...

Choke of barrels on 1984 Pedersoli SxS.

Thank you so much for identifying them. Satisfying my curiosity. I have a vague memory of that. I'm setting up a patterning range a little at a time. Fun.

Choke of barrels on 1984 Pedersoli SxS.

Hi all..they say curiosity killed the cat. Good thing I am not a cat. I am curious to know the choke on my Pedersoli SxS. I have now measured the rt. barrel 1.5" down muzzle to be .690. At the end of the muzzle .690. The left barrel measures 1.5" down .682 At the end of the barrel .673.. So far...

    Shotgun Wad Management

I understand completely. When I was doing blacksmithing demos at rendezvous, I got the most out of the experience by hanging with period equipment, gear and clothing. I recently put up a new tipi here at the end of the road. I am dangling all this outdoor grandsons bait in front of them to...

    Shotgun Wad Management

A pal who uses a Skoal type tobacco is saving his Skoal cans for me. They ought to be ok to use too. Might ask a Skoal dipper friend to save his. And where else might you find a wad box with such a minty bouquet as either Altoids or Skoal...He empties one every three or so days. The 1/2" soaked...

    Shotgun Wad Management

Thanks for the heads-up Bill. I may as well start out with a thicker over shot card wad. Makes sense. I think I remember having to reseat the left barrel. Little as I knew, I knew that was not good. Seems my bathroom tissue had some inadequacies holding the load.

The right barrel appears to be clearly full choke and the left more so.
