Penny For Your Thoughts? Pawn Shop Find.

I've seen that rifle before, at least one very much like it. I scout online photos looking for butt stock carving designs I like; minimalist things that would be correct on my woods runner. I'm pretty sure I've seen that design somewhere, but didn't download a photo because that design doesn't...

    1816 Restoration Project Questions

Mausers were built using an inch system of measurement. I've been unable to learn how Mauser's inch compares to the British inch. The metric system wasn't widely used in 1822. It was a french thang.. 1816 guns, I'm 99.9% certain, were built using an American inch.

What's the consensus on Kibler rifles Steel finish?

Remember, Hawken rifles of the early 1800s were blued. T/C rifles are more Ohio style than Hawken style. Me impression is most Ohios were either blued or browned, not bright.

    M M BENSON RIFLE

The rifle has Ohio characteristics. The triggerguard and butt plate are commonly found on Ohio rifles. Buckeye rifles tend to have many metal ornaments rather than carving. The stepped rear sight suggests to me post CW build. As I recall Studebaker displayed at the 1876 centennial exposition a...

Need help picking a first rifle

You have received much advice. Much of it I'd call intermediate level. Also, if I were a new bee reading it I'd be confused. Somebody needs to write a long post in simple words and sentences explaining step by step the art of the flintlock. Boone (an in-law of mine) and Crocket may have found...

Best barrel twist for .54 Caliber

If the rate of twist is to slow your round balls won't stabilize and will keyhole on the target.

    1795 Springfield

I did check Dixie for a 1795, completed or kit, but they were out of stock. Midway seems to have a great deal of ML stuff. It may become the big player in the game. I considered an Indian-made version, but decided not to deal with quality and authenticity issues. Also I'm an old Grunt, Infantry...

    1795 Springfield

I recently bought a Pedersoli 1795 kit through MidwayUSA. It came assembled and shootable. About all that needs to be done is polish the barrel bands and do some shaping of the butt. The lock sparks well. The tiny details seem correct. Unless you just want to do a scratch build there's no need...

    TC trivia

Cabela's 58 Hawken barrels measure 31/32nds, splitting the difference between 15/16ths and one-inch.
