What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Went clay shooting, with my newly repaired 20b percussion gun, 1/2 oz lead, hit them off the 120ft tall tower, much to the annoyance of the modern guns practicing for pheasants, who were missing more than they hit,

    Flints

A while back, on one of the flint threads, there was an email address for a fella in France, maybe near Tours, but for the life of me I cannot find it, does anyone have it at all?, thanks

    Gluing leather to flint

I use the same bit of leather for as long as possible, it sort of wears in / toughens after the first few flints, both of my flintlocks have leather that is at least two years old, and work better the longer they go one,

I need help with DIY wads

I use the bought lubed wads, but cut them in half, and still plenty thick enough, with a little jig, could probably cut them in to thirds, cheap enough and easily available in UK, not sure where in Europe you are

    A Random Question

I have had both bits of flint and percussion cap hit my glasses, just normal ones, not safety ones, but wouldn't shoot without them, and need them to see where I am aiming for anyway!

    LONG ENOUGH FLINT ?

I normally just snap a twig off and stick a bit of it behind the flint if they are a bit short, works for me.

    Naming your guns?

Reminds me of a friend who always goes out with a broomstick in a gunslip, so it looks the same if he comes with a new one!

    Function of a patented breech?

I regularly use 2 original flintlocks, my manton has a form of patent breech, and my jurdison, which is a bit older, late 1790's, just has a hole straight into the bottom of the barrel, and it works a lot better, goes off instantly every time, only give the lock a wipe on wet days, and can hit...

Don't know how y'all do it....

Shoot nothing else for a year and a day, and you will have mastered it, got used to all its little ways and foibles, and wont look back

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finally got round to grinding down flat tops on my pile of mishaped flints,

    Longest Flintlock rifle

The top picture is a fellow called Snowden Sleights, and he definitely used his a lot, a well known character, and professional shot and eel hunter, there is quite a good stained window of him in the church where he is buried, i do have a small biography of him some where

    Charles Moore shotgun

I can second this, have shot with feltwad at national and local clay shoots, and is always knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly, i have also won competitions with shotguns acquired from him.

    Black powder shortage

If any European powder ever makes it over, the vesuvit, Czech powder is as good as anything below swiss, will work perfectly in anything, been using it in all my flint and percussion guns for a good few years now, can't fault it in any way.

    Roe buck hunting in Hungary.

If anyone does get over to Hungary, there is an agricultural museum in a castle in city park, which has an excellent hunting section, loads in it, and some excellent and interesting muzzle loaders
